The color yellow, a bright, neon color that demands attention. The color of the highlighter that permanently resides in every textbook that our tired, and curious eyes had followed from left to right since childhood. The faint color of an old book, a familiar pencil, or striped bumblebee hovering above sweet scented daisies. Yellow. The color that consumes fallen leaves, the color that paints the sidewalks during autumn. It is the shade that crossing guards wear at 2:05 on a weekday afternoon, the color that a bicyclist sports along the sidewalks of busy streets, and the hue that runs segmented along black paved roads. It is the color that brightens up a rainy day.
We see in different colors. We see in different hues, and some don't see at all. Some people cannot see in colors, but they can feel them.
Yellow demands to be felt. It is the warmth that kisses our skin on a hot summer day, the color that strains itself to warm us on a cool autumn evening. It shines through glass windows, and cracks in the wall, sprinkling its hue like little droplets in our hair. It's the color of curiosity, welcoming, and wellness. It is the color that reminds us of an old lover's voice or a caring friend. It pours from their lips. It ignites our ears. It's the color that welcomes a new day and awakes us from slumber. The color we unwind with at the end of the day. It's the dawn. A sunset. It's the taste of sweet lemonade, and comforting mac' n cheese. It's the color that the moon showers upon the ocean. It is open arms and the friendliness of a smile.
It's the color of transition every fall, the color that timidly allows the other colors and feelings to immerse during the winter, growth during spring, and the exhilaration of summer.
Yellow hasn't always been my favorite color. Pink was always my favorite. It was pretty. Then I fell in love with blues, because it was calm. I grew out of pretty and longed for serenity. It's the color of what surrounds us. The ocean and the sky. But yellow is what allows us to breathe. It's what keeps us alive, and excited
Yellow is a feeling.
