The senior class of 2020 dreamed of going to college. They wished to go and obtain an education with teachers who could help them to achieve their goals, and who took an interest in their academic strives. They wished to go out to college to participate in different campus events and opportunities. They wanted to meet new people and learn about different cultures. They wanted to root for their school's team in a sports game and attend the plays and shows done on their campus. They paid good money for their experience.
The class of 2020 will not receive this first-year experience. Everything from orientation to their classes was moved online. They no longer would have the experience they paid for. Their teachers would be too focused on keeping CDC guidelines to give their attention to students' academic endeavors. The plays and games will be canceled due to the virus. Students will not be allowed to mingle and learn from one another in the quarantined environment. Not only that, but masks must be worn, distances must be kept, and Clorox wipes and sanitizer must be used. This is the effect of a global pandemic.
These actions must be fulfilled to care for students and staff. They are the necessary precautions. Yet, with all these changes to the downgrade of education, universities are still keeping tuition prices the same. Students are not getting what they paid for. They are losing thousands of dollars they spent on their education. They are not receiving the same amount of services for their money as they did in the past. This is criminal. Universities are receiving government funding, which they are not using to ease their students' financial burdens. Their students are suffering from a failing economy, and they still expect them to use every dollar they have and then more on an educational experience that is subpar.
Students have complained for the past few decades of the increase in tuition. The amount of services they have received for their money has decreased with time. Greed has been spoiling education. If universities do not adapt their tuition costs with this pandemic will show to their students and the public how outrageous the cost of education truly is.
The college freshman class education experience has been spoiled this year. Yet, they will learn a new lesson on how people can adapt to trials. How education is a business and how that means they can and will take advantage of their clients. It will teach them that the world can change in a minute. It will make the future college graduate class of 2024 wiser and ready for the world.
