The City Is Our Campus: The Ultimate Guide Of Taking Photos At DePaul University

DePaul University in Chicago is not a typical college campus setting. Nestled in the bustling downtown loop, and in Lincoln Park, DePaul has the best of both worlds. The Lincoln Park campus offers a typical college feel with buildings spread out, and a quad. However, take the train to the downtown loop campus and immerse yourself with the city life. With DePaul at the heart of the city, students take some of the most breathtaking views of the city skyline or in downtown. Whether in Lincoln Park or at the loop campus, students can take some amazing photos that ensure DePaul is not a typical college, but in a great city like Chicago. Here are a list of some of the best locations for taking photos at DePaul

Lincoln Park Campus

Ray Meyer Fitness Center

The fourth floor of the fitness center at DePaul has an indoor track that has all glass windows with natural lighting. The south side of the track, and the building overlook the skyline. Running during the sunrise or sunset is the best, and this photogenic spot on campus is perfect.

Clifton Parking Garage/Rooftops

The Clifton Parking Garage and the rooftops of the theater school and some of the dorms on campus has some areas where the entire skyline is shown. These buildings are located on the west side of campus, and all someone would have to do is take a room or go to the south side of the building to capture these stunning photos.

Dorms/Academic Buildings

Besides the rooftops and the parking garages, some students may have some of Chicago skyline view in their bedrooms! Munroe Hall, Clifton-Fullerton Hall, and McCabe Hall are the residence halls that have the most photogenic spots of Chicago. There are a few other areas in the Lincoln Park Campus that offer these spots to take photos such as the fourth floor of Arts and Letters Hall.

Loop Campus

Brown Line

Although not on the actual campus itself, the brown line links both the Lincoln Park and loop campus together. One iconic area where many photos scream out Chicago is when crossing the Chicago River on Wells Street before coming into the loop. Whether during the day or at night, both are gorgeous views.

Hero's Coffee

Hero's Coffee Roasters located in the loop campus is one photo spot you won't want to miss. The quintessential lights hanging above from building to building and the seats outside make it seem like you are on at a cafe on a street in Paris. Hero's Coffee is a Chicago staple, and attracts many customers.

Student Center Rooftop

Head up onto the 11th floor of the DePaul Center, and enjoy a meal in the rooftop. The perfect place to chat with friends, and study, eat or just simply enjoy the views of Chicago. Be aware that the rooftop deck is only open Fall and Spring quarters, so make the most of your visit.

DePaul Center Sky Deck

Whether it be the 8th, 9th, 10th, or 11th floor of the DePaul Center, each floor has a sky deck that connects the DePaul Center with the Lewis Center. Enjoy the views as you go to class, or study in this area since coaches are on each floor.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
