The City Across The Lake

The greatest place on Earth is the place across the lake from me

I live in a little town right on Lake Michigan called Michigan City. No, it is not in Michigan, it is actually in Indiana. Michigan City is part of the region and everyone in The Region will hate on my city so don't listen to them. I'm not gonna lie the nicest part about my city is the beach. Most people will say Michigan City is trashy but honestly, it's not. Michigan City is on the rise and it is becoming a beautiful little city. Michigan City is actually one of the top places to vacation in the summer. So yeah, thats a brief description of my little city, now on to why I'm writing this article.

Going to the lake every day during the summer is everyone's plan in Michigan City. One of the coolest things about Michigan City is on a clear day you can see the Chicago skyline. Let me tell you, it is the best view you'll ever see.

I have lived in Michigan City since I was born and I grew up with seeing that view almost every day. Seeing Chicago every day is great motivation to do well in high school so, you can get into a top college so, you can get that amazing job so, you can live in that beautiful city. In Michigan City, we have the South Shore Train that takes you straight to Chicago in 2 hours. My family is full of huge Chicago people so we would go almost once a week to Chicago.

I grew up loving Chicago sports teams (except the Bears, GO COLTS!). My school would go on field trips to Chicago almost 3 times a year. I knew how to get around Chicago since I was 8 years old. Since Michigan City is so close to Chicago a ton of people that work in Chicago actually live in Michigan City. If you drive down Lake Shore Dr. you will see all Illinois license plates. So basically, I have grown up with Chicago being an important place in my life.

I remember the exact moment I knew Chicago was the place I wanted to live. It was 5 years ago and I just got done with a doctors appointment and my mom and I were sitting at Corner Bakery. I was looking around and I saw people in scrubs heading back to the hospital, I saw people walking with their dogs, people with shopping bags that just got done shopping on the Magnificent Mile, this lady park her brand new G-Class Mercedes Benz, all the skyscrapers, but the most amazing part of it was all the people around me were smiling.

It was so weird because I have been to Chicago a million times and it just hit me that day that Chicago is a magical place. I knew from that moment on I wanted to live in the city across the lake. Ever since that day the second I come up the stairs from Millennial Station I get tears in my eyes cause I want to live there so badly. Everyone tells me I'm crazy for wanting to live in downtown cause it's loud and expensive but I'm not crazy! Chicago is the best city on this planet and I will do whatever it take to make it there. Watch out city across the lake, I'm coming for you.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
