The Chronicles Of Summer

Chapter Five: 22.

The Chronicles Of Summer

Summer is here, y'all! I have been excited and counting down for a few weeks now. Naturally I wouldn't want to pregame for any other season. Summer has way of turning everything into a good time, and I'm more than ready to get started! This summer I have a few things up my sleeve, and I hope you'll join me for the journey.

This summer I want to grow: mind, body and soul. What a perfect time to learn about yourself in these aspects with no 10-page papers required. Just live, and it will come along nicely! If only it were as easy as it is to type out. Lord knows my semester has thrown off my body regimen, and I need to get back on track. With all of this extra time, I'm certain it won't be too hard. My mind needs a desperate break, so I'm going to try sitting by a pool for long hours, with a good book and some good juice. Growing spiritually within my soul is my main priority, and I hope to rid myself of all negative energy and focus on simply positivity. Get out your sage, y'all, and get to burnin'; it's time to clean house!

This summer I want to listen to music. They say listening to music requires every part of your brain, so what better way to get in touch with your brain? Genre does not matter at this point. If you're like me, turning on Spotify early in the morning with a cup of coffee is good enough to cleanse my soul. However, maybe some good meditation will be in order. If you have never tried it, let me suggest it for you. One hour of meditation a day is sure to spin you right out of this world, literally.

This summer I want to watch every episode of "Chelsea Handler" on Netflix. Like everyone else in American society, we all have that one show. I believe I have found mine, and she's a talk show host! Chelsea says her talk show is to help you grow as a person, so maybe with her sarcastic tone, I just might grow a little more. I believe the world would be a better place if there were more Chelsea Handlers.

This summer I want to become that person I've always wanted to be. Ironically, taking a much-needed break from social media is near the top of my list. This presidential election has everyone tweaking out, and I just don't have time for stupidity. If I plan on growing among my mind and soul, I can't be in a pissed off mood because some hilljack on my Facebook is supporting Trump for all the wrong reasons. So instead of believing what society processes as true information, which is all of the conspiracy theories you can think of, I'll pick up a book. I want to read a good book, and who knows? Maybe one about Hillary Clinton.

Oh the life of a 22-year-old, still in college, and struggling to become everything I've always wanted. With time, this will be possible. We are already halfway through the year, so some growing is in store before I turn the big 2-3! Cheers to summer; may you be beautiful, hot, and full of energy!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
