The weather is becoming cooler, the wind is starting to blow more, the air has a different smell and embrace altogether, and more time of the day is spent in the darkness or urban night-time. It's the coming of a new season.
But what are some of these changes in season, particularly summer to fall, and eventually winter?
Trips to the beach to cool off and excitement at the refreshments of the ice cream truck on a hot day are over, making room for longer time indoors and warm drinks to make us comfortable. Sniffles will be around us, and some of us will get the opportunity to travel out and play in the snow in the forrests.
New school semesters affect students all around the country and bring additional life to all of us. New cultural foods at the food hall, a different change of clothing style, classrooms and buildings and offices decorated for different holiday themes, and new opportunities for the year to come.
The change of environment also presents a new challenge to many. Sunlight fuels most of life's processes, and the less sunlight there is, the more these processes get challenged. The color of greenery changes, some flowers bloom while others fall, and animals themselves go under many changes. While some animals begin to hibernate, humans start to experience several symptoms of the season, some less exciting than hibernation. Some become very in tune with the gloomy moods and melancholy days, catalysts for artwork and writing; others fall into seasonal affective disorder and the changes in mood and depersonalization that it brings.
Around all this are the oncoming celebrations of cultures all around us; Rosh Hashanah, Halloween, Dia de Los Muertos, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa, and many others. It's a time where many come together to pray, pay respect, celebrate all of life's offerings.
The change of seasons makes many changes for us all, and whatever comes ahead of these next few months, we should learn to appreciate all the challenges and celebrations that come ahead. Take lots of care, and enjoy the oncoming seasons!
