The Canyon

A guided meditation

26
The Canyon
Antelope Canyon- Wikipedia

10 minutes of mindful thought

Imagine yourself in the warm desert

approaching a vast slice of shade

Your feet sink slightly into the sand

but stay above the surface

In front of you is a canyon stretching up to the sky

Between two enormous clay-colored walls

lies a seldom walked path

that you have stumbled upon for this part of your journey

There is a soft breeze brushing your skin

until you reach the entrance

here. it is still

Then you step into this roofless cave

You run your hands against the smooth wall

touching an unfathomable amount of time

Time where the Earth's elements inflict evolution on its surfaces

There is room to breath in this canyon

and it embraces you...each step

The shadows create cool patches

while the sun radiates onto the upper grooves in the walls

Reminding us to always consider the dark, and the light

the Yin and Yang

The sun reminds you to let go of stress

and instead seek balance

The canyon accompanies your thoughts

It is comfortable

Each inhale, you can feel the decades of winds blowing through this crevice in the Earth

Each exhale, you can hear the water that once ran through this canal

The sunlight is beaming above you while you reside between the walls

Continuing to walk through the canyon

you look for a spot to pause

a place to be peaceful and reflect

And in that moment, you see a clearing

a circle of sand in the canyon

to sit and absorb the sun's energy

You are safe

Your are meditative

You can trust

Let the mind find what is has been looking for

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
