The Calm is closing my eyes,
feeling the wind and hearing the waves,
seeing lightning strike and rain fall,
and snuggling in a heated blanket.
The Calm is smelling grandpa's old flannel,
tobacco and Lifesaver mints,
and tasting grandma's mashed potatoes,
smooth and filling.
The Calm is loving you,
taking long drives with no destination,
being hugged on my worst days,
and hearing your laugh.
The Calm is escaping everyday life,
no lingering responsibilities,
no judgements,
and all is serene for a time.
The Calm keeps me sane,
soothes me to sleep,
makes tomorrow worth the while,
and keeps me focused.
Even though I wish,
life had more of The Calm,
I suppose temporary,
is far better than eternal.
