The Borgen Project is an organization that has opened my eyes wide open to the issue of poverty and hunger worldwide.
This organization is one that fights for the underdog, by working with U.S. leaders to improve their response to the global poverty crisis.
A few of the main issues we are concerned with have to do with the fact that the number of people around the world suffering from hunger is greater than the population of the United States, Europe, and Canada COMBINED. We all know that global hunger is an issue, but do we know how big and how much it is actually affecting people?
I was extremely shocked when I discovered the statistics of this issue, and the fact that there is not more being done to address it. However, the good news is that there IS hope AND motivation coming from within. Not only does decreasing/ending the global poverty crisis benefit those directly affected by it, but everyone around the world will begin to see benefits as we continue to raise awareness and funding for the underlying issues associated with it.
How?
By investing in developing countries that are struggling to make it by daily, we are able to bring more people out of poverty and into the workforce; therefore strengthening our own economy by accumulating more consumers into the market.
Additionally, when more people are being treated sustainably and being brought out of poverty, we will actually see a decrease in population rise, which is another problem faced by the entire world. When people are able to raise their children in a healthy way and not have to worry about them dying at a young age, they will have less children. Less poverty=Less overpopulation. It is a lot of information to take in at once, but once we all start to see the bigger picture, the bigger impact we will be able to make on the world.
The easiest way that we can directly help includes calling, emailing, and posting to Congress on social media asking the leaders in our specific areas to support funding for issues such as the International Affairs Budget, which supports critical development and diplomacy programs around the world. Programs funded by this directly help improve living conditions for the poor.
Do The Borgen Project (and yourself) a favor and call, email, and donate to start seeing the results we all deserve.
Congress is more likely to support a bill when as little as SEVEN people ask for it. So what are you waiting for? Visit borgenproject.org and find out who is representing you and make money moves today.
