He had 7 siblings and his parents migrated from the western part of Gujarat to Ahmedabad.

As a teenager, he moved to Mumbai in order to work as a diamond sorter for the Mahendra brothers. He worked there for 2 to 3 years straight. Later, he opened his diamond brokerage firm in Mumbai.

After almost a decade his elder brother Mansukhbhai Adani invited him to his operations. In a plastics unit. This seemed to be the gateway to international markets for him. He started his journey by exporting primary polymers, and now we all know who he is.

According to Forbes, Gautam Adani has a 75% stake in Adani Transmission, a 75% stake in Adani Enterprises, a 66% stake in Adani Ports & SEZ Limited, 73% stake in Adani Power. This is not it. In 2019 Gautam Adani was ranked as the 3rd most powerful person in India by India today.

Gautam Adani married Preity Adani and they have two sons. The elder son is Karan Adani and the younger one is Jeet Adani. Not to mention, Adani's wife is a dentist. She supports and helps Adani in most of his deals. As an individual, she runs many campaigns to spread awareness on education. The elder son of the family has completed his graduation from the USA and now he is appointed as the new CEO of Adani Ports and SEZ (APSEZ). In 2013, he got married to Paridhi Shroff.
