College is the number one place to ask someone what they want to do with their life. I have gotten asked a few times this week even. It’s a big deal and knowing that is a little important. However, I didn’t always know and I can always change my mind. That’s the beauty of figuring out what you want to do. It’s not set in stone. I used to be a history major and I hated it, but I had to go and try being a history major so I could see if it was a good fit. It was not the right major for me. Now I’m a communications major and I love it. Not knowing what you want to do creates path to discovering what it is you want to do and that’s okay. No one has it all figured out.
I always knew that I needed to have a career or work in an industry that allowed me to be creative and be surrounded by people who are also creative. I used to want to work in the fashion industry. Project Runway and The Devil Wears Prada were my inspiration. If I change my mind, fashion is my back up. New York City, here I come right?
When people ask me what I want do firsthand, I say I want to work for the music business. I love music and I’m really passionate about it. Some of my best memories are of concerts and music. However, there is still an unknown in there and that’s okay. I do not know what exactly I want to do in the business. It will most likely be public relations, social media or something of the sort. But I will not say no if any other opportunities come up that are different. I do not want to have a solid plan going into the work place because if something better comes along, I want to feel comfortable taking it. I don’t want to get stuck in a mindset that I can only do one thing in an industry filled with possibilities.
If you don’t know what you want to yet, don’t fret. If you have an idea, but you haven’t executed it yet, just try it. You might find something along the way. Funny things happen when you start to go after what you want or think you want. Doing is better than just getting inspired. Doing usually leads to inspiration and inspiration leads to more doing.
All in all, I want to work for the music business and have a good time doing it. I’m excited for it and passionate about music. I feel music has given me so much that I want to repay it. Without music, I don’t know what I would be passionate about. I love the aspects of the business that I have seen so far and can’t wait to get my musical business journey started.
