I frantically rifled through reams of paper, not bothering to watch as sheets upon sheets of paper fluttered through the air and onto the floor. What had I gotten myself into? The biggest project assigned was due tomorrow and I had done nothing. Nothing!
I couldn’t help but pick at the loose flesh on my fingernail. Without any contact, a chip of polish fell from my nail. This Monday was going to suck.
“Call Alexander Pezzutto” I mumbled into the phone beforesquishing it between my neck and shoulder. Ring. Ring. “Hello?”
“What am I going to do Alex?”
He chuckled. “Not one for formalities eh?”
“Sorry…it’s just. This is important.”
“Okay, shoot… what are you going to do about what?” I quickly gave him the low down as I proceeded to file through sheet after sheet. The brief outline I created weeks ago had to be somewhere. I figured it might be at his house.
“I’m sorry Kate. I don’t have it.”
“Thanks for looking.”
“No problem. Hey. It’ll work out. It’s okay Katie.” But really, is it? This could mean the end of my English career.
I sighed heavily before pressing the bright, red button. “Yeah, thanks. Thanks for looking. Love you.”
“Love you too.”
Beep beep beep. Call over.
My life so over.
Okay, so maybe that write up was a little exaggerated. Maybe I didn’t forget to complete the most important project of my life. Maybe my nail polish didn’t fall off (cue deep sigh of relief).
Maybe… but that doesn’t mean I haven’t slacked off on something of great value because I most certainly have. Many occasions have found me attempting the easy way out. It seemed like a good idea at the time but ultimately it was damaging to my reputation as an individual and as an artist.
Because the effort wasn’t given marks weren’t awarded.
I don’t want this to be the case for you my friend.
If you are creating something to share with others and are tempted to skimp on edits, research, content et cetera please don’t.
Do everything with excellence, regardless of how challenging the path is as this is a reflection of Christ’s character in you. Our God was extremely precise, calculating and specific about what He created. He did not fail when creating you. We ought to give Him all we can with our gifts.
Please take this super short blog as inspiration to do your absolute best and ride on my excellent friend…ride on.
