There's over a million things to see, do eat and eat in New York and just as many articles telling you which ones to do first. Usually when I read through the lists of just dos I wonder if the author has done the same things they list. I recently went on a random day trip to New York and have a list of things that I've actually done.
1. Morandi Restaurant
This small Italian restaurant has all the charm of a restaurant in Italy. You can choose between adorable outdoor seat and an open indoor seating. Although a bit expensive, it is tucked away from busy streets and has a long menu of breads, crepes, and pastas.
For the next stop, we’ll be heading south.
2. The World Trade Center Memorial
An obvious tourist attraction that means much more than words can describe. The flow of water through the architectural memorial brings back a rush of memories of where you were all those years ago. There's so many different angles to watch from and to take pictures from. Don't be afraid to join the “out of town folks” and take as many pics as you can.
3. The Brooklyn Bridge
The magnificent, old bridge stands tall and proud connecting the two coasts. It also stands ready for selfies and pictures as long as you have time for. Many people stayed awhile taking pictures with family and friends. There's bike rentals and trails ready for use along the coast as well. If you'd rather take a break from walking, which was my choice you can rest up on one of the benches with a gorgeous view of the water and the bridge.
4. China Town
Head back north, you'll begin to see the neighborhood come alive with markets and people. With a failed attempt to go to Nam Wa Tea Parlor because of the 25 minute wait, a lonely dim sum restaurant presented a prime opportunity. Unfortunately, the name of this restaurant is lost in the pit of information I absorbed that day. If you do find yourself in need of dim sum in Chinatown, let me know how the Tea Parlor is!
5. Black Tap
The last endeavour of the city as the long hour wait to get into the ever so famous, Black Tap. This restaurant is known for the extravagant milkshakes and extremely long lines. I am a firm believe in experiences being extremely subjective. Therefore I cannot say ether the wait was worth it or not. I can suggest you try to get in line more than 2 hours before your bus departs for home! Take your time with a burger and fries and do not rush eating/drinking the milkshake. Especially if you get the cotton candy milkshake! The sugar rush WILL hit you like a wrecking ball.
Overall, the day trip to New York was a success. Now, since I've actually done the things I've read on the lists, I don't have to wonder how they actually are. Now, I can write my own lists of the things I've actually done and would recommend to you.
