The Best People I Know

My siblings have made me into who I am today.

The Best People I Know
Hannah Burns

“Being a sibling means you are a part of something wonderful, you will love and be loved for the rest of your life.”

My siblings have made me into who I am today and are constantly teaching me who I want to be tomorrow. Being one of the middle children in a family with 4 kids gives me a lot of reasons and stories as to why I may be biased thinking I have the best siblings. If you know me, you know I love my siblings and love an excuse to brag about them or tell someone what my ten-year old sister did to make us laugh at dinner the night before. There is always laughter, joy, and memories made when we are together.

I have always heard that laughter is the best medicine, and maybe it is because I am always laughing that I didn’t understand that until college. There are days I find myself doing one of those laugh at something that happened days ago during a quiet lecture, because I am thinking about something one of my siblings did and it helps me get through hard days.

There are a lot of thing I admire about all three of my siblings:

In my older brother I admire the way he cares for us, especially the younger two. Sometimes I find myself jealous of the way they look up to him, but he deserves that recognition. He chooses to hang out with our 11-year-old brother over being with his friends. He chose to go to a Father-Daughter dance with our sister because our Dad was out of town.

In my younger brother I admire the way he is true to himself, we often joke that he is an old man because he never wants to leave the house. I admire the way he makes a joke out of almost anything, I probably laugh more at jokes he makes than I do at jokes people my own age make. I love the way he loves others, the other day my mom and I walked downstairs to him getting medicine and a cup of water for my sister who wasn’t feeling well. He doesn’t like to leave or have someone leave the house without giving them a hug and reminding them that he loves them.

In my younger sister I admire her heart. She has one of the most caring, selfless, and joyful heart. Her positive attitude about everything brings such light to my days. She loves others so well, even at the age of 11. If she gets something, her first thought is to give it away. She makes me laugh through her countless funny actions and stories. I can always count on her to be my sleepover buddy & come with me to run errands. Having a sister means I’ll always have a friend.

Thanks to my siblings, I am a better person. Being a sibling and having siblings is the greatest blessing. With every birthday of my younger two siblings, I get emotional. They aren’t the little babies they once were, instead they are growing up into two world changers. The idea of my older brother moving out makes me upset (even if I joke and tell him he should leave) because there is just nothing better than coming home to my whole family sitting around the kitchen table, eating one of my mom’s home cooked meals. With siblings like mine, I always have a full heart.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter
morethanwheels

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
