“When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs.”
-Ansel Adams
Sometimes words are inadequate in fully describing the wonder of an incredible place. Sure, I could tell you of the breathtaking scenery. I could even try to describe the how the sun shines across the glistening ice that covers the lake. Or perhaps it is would be best to mention the way the sky is illuminated during a summer evening. Not always can my words convey the treasures to be found. In those moments, it is best to capture the experience through the lens of a camera. Below, I have shared with you some photographs I have taken that captures a sense of my home, Northern Michigan.
1.
This first photo was taken right off US 23 between Rogers City and Cheboygan. The sun was glistening off the snow-covered Hammond Bay State Refugee Harbor on this particular Sunday morning.
2.
Pictured above is just one of many spectacular sunsets taken along the shore of the South-East side of Black Lake on a late spring evening.
3.
The clouds danced across the sky behind the shadowed trees and across the frozen lake on this cool, winter afternoon.
4.
The lasting impression left behind after a walk with man’s best friend on the sugar sand beach of Lake Huron on a warm August afternoon.
5.
Above the surface of Black Lake the sky was illuminated with such incredibly vibrant colors. The night sky was one of lifetime.
6.
Words could never describe the full extent of this breathtaking evening sky as it reflects upon the ripples of the placid surface of Black Lake.
7.
The sky ablaze as the sun set on across the horizon of Black Lake. The water had transformed into mixtures of blues, reds, and greens on this particular night.
Alone each image makes a bold print. However, when they are pieced together they tell a story. It is a story of how nature reflects perfection in the most detailed ways: sun glistening off the calm of the water, the colors transforming the sky into an art canvas, or even how the clouds form to accent an already incredible scene. This is story of how no the time in the year the ever-changing scenery remains incredibly spectacular. Hopefully, you have allowed these photos to place you in the moment far better than words ever could.
