What does Christmas mean to you?

With it being the holiday season, our days are full of Christmas shopping, cookies, and debating what to get each person on our Christmas list. Sometimes, in our busy and hectic lives, we forget to take the time to slow down and think about what Christmas truly means. In Cleon Alleyne's video Simple Christmas on YouTube, we are asked the question "How would Jesus celebrate?" Take some time to think about that- how would Jesus celebrate Christmas if he was here on Earth with us today? Would he be worried about buying presents for everyone and spending money on presents, or would he look to spend time and give things that people need? These are some questions we need to bring with us into this holiday season.

Think about the true meaning of Christmas--giving. Jesus was given to us on Christmas as a gift to save us all. God gave us Jesus as our Christmas present. What if, instead of giving unneeded gifts to those who we are closest to, we gave our time to an organization in need? Spend time this holiday season helping out those around you. Volunteer or provide gifts for those who are in need. Many organizations look for donations and volunteers to run events this time of year and the recipients of your time and gifts would appreciate it more than you could ever imagine. While giving gifts to loved ones is always fun, take some time this holiday season and think about who else you could give to who may need it more.

Think about one of the best gifts you could think of this holiday season for friends and family. Did time come to mind? One thing that we seem to forget about in this crazy whirlwind that has become our lives is spending time with friends, family, and loved ones during the holidays. But in reality, is there any gift that could be much better than that? We often find that there isn't enough time in the day to sit down and have a real conversation with somebody; time to catch up and talk about things that are going on in our lives. This Christmas, try spending time with those you love, because that is one present that will never go to waste.

Finally, worship. Worship is one big word for the holiday season. With the hustle and bustle of gifts, baking, and holiday parties, often worship is what gets put on hold. This holiday season, take time to remember what Christmas is truly about and why it is around. Spend time in prayer and at church. Remember that, originally, the true meaning of Christmas was that we were sent a son. This son came into the world to forgive all of us and to remind us that we are loved, no matter what. This holiday season, give to those who need it, spend time with loved ones, and don't forget to spend time in prayer and worship. What better way to celebrate Christmas is there than that?

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
