I'm not a Boonie myself, but I do spend a decent amount of time there. With my boyfriend and a lot of my friends attending App State, I tend to make a lot of trips across the parkway to see them. During the last few years of these trips, I am fairly certain I have experienced many of the Boone honey-holes. Here are five places to visit next time you're in Boone.
Woodlands BBQ
If you genuinely need some southern-styled barbecue, this is a must try. I have literally never made a trip to Boone without eating at Woodlands at least once, if not more. Their prices are super reasonable, even for college students, and they serve very good helpings. If you take only one thing away from this article, it should be that you must try Woodlands.
App State Football and Tailgating
This year I attended my first App State football game, thus experiencing Boone tailgating for the first time. To begin with, there is nowhere more beautiful to spend a Saturday morning than propped atop a parking deck in Boone. With students and families tailgating together, it makes for an interesting time for all. The marching band parades through the deck, and Yosef will even stop in for a visit. While making the trek down the garage to Kidd Brewer Stadium, or commonly known as "The Rock," you are sure to pass a few students you know or friends from home. When you finally get to the stadium, you had better be prepared to stand for the next few hours -- because the 'Neers don't sit for a second once the game begins.
King Street
Home to everything Boone. This is the place to be after a football victory, when bar-hopping, or when trying to buy App State gear. As it acts as the main road in Boone, King Street has everything you can think of -- Mast General Store, dozens of bars and restaurants (including Macados), and a few thrift shops, there is something to catch anyone's eye.
Daniel Boone Inn
The famous Daniel Boone Inn. Anyone who has visited Boone know of the rumors of the delectable Daniel Boone Inn, I am here to confirm that these rumors are true. This is by far one of the most amazing restaurants in the Appalachian region. For a very reasonable price you will walk away fat and happy after consuming numerous biscuits, fried chicken, and corn on the cob. This establishment is the epitome of good eatin'!
Linn Cove Viaduct
If you've ever seen the Blue Ridge Parkway on a brochure, you are most likely looking at the Viaduct. The Linn Cove Viaduct is a modern marvel in the Appalachian region and is likely one of the most advanced structures in the area. This bridge was the last piece in the construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway and since completion, hikers and tourists alike make a point to visit and catch the most spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
