New York City is filled with culture everywhere you look. The endless amounts of food, shopping and museums to entertain you are everywhere. No matter where you are, you are guaranteed to stumble upon a historic museum, pop up museum, or a line of people waiting to enter a classic museum's new exhibit. And for college students across the city and from afar, there are various discounts to benefit from. Ranging from art, fashion, and even science– here are the best museums to visit while in New York City.

1. The Guggenheim Museum

This is an international museum, specializing in modern and contemporary art.

2. The Museum of Modern Art

When most people think of art museums, the MoMA is the first that comes to mind. This museum has a wide collection of artists displayed, such as classics like Andy Warhol and Vincent Van Gogh

3. The Whitney Museum of American Art

This contemporary art museum is conveniently located in the Meatpacking District area of NYC, and is also a short walk away from The Highline. Aside from the collection of art available to view, the location is also a sight to see.

4. The New Museum

Founded in 1977, this museum is widely known for it's exclusive collection of contemporary art. It's most recent popular exhibit "Pixel Forest" became a sensation on social media and brought new eyes to the establishment.

5. Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum

This museum has little bit of it all. Here, they display a wide range of all types of art, fashion, design and architecture. This museum is one of the most "trendy" in the city, and is definitely not your typical museum.

6. The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Speaking of historic museums, The Met' is one of the oldest museums in New York City, and is also one of the largest in the world. The collection of art on display ranges from ancient Greece to ancient Egypt, and all the way to modern art.

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus.
