To The Best Friend Who Understands Me

People typically believe that a best friend is the person who you are supposed to be inseparable with. The person that you are supposed to be with 24/7. The person you always are texting, Snapchatting, FaceTiming, or just talking to. Well to that idea, I say no.

A best friend is a person that understands you. A friend that you can call and they know exactly what to say. The great thing about a best friend is that you don’t need to be linked to them at all times because what matters is the random memories you make with them. They might not have been someone who has known you since kindergarten, but that doesn't matter. That is just a number of years, but the memories you share outweighs that. It doesn’t matter the number of hours or days you are with them, what matters is the happiness you create while you are with them. You can go a week without hearing from them, but that is the best because when you meet back up, it is as if you never left each other. You will meet up after who knows how long, tell each other stories, laugh, cry, embarrass each other, but you really do it to make each other happy. A best friend only cares about seeing you enjoy yourself and your life. They shouldn’t want to see you fail, they are there because they want to help you up and see you soar. Finally, a best friend has your back, and to that best friend, I say thank you.

I say thank you for understanding me when I need a friend, but also when I need my space. I say thank you for wanting the best for me, but not afraid to tell me when I am wrong. I also say thank you for loving me through my ups and downs because as Selena Gomez once said, “you never fail to make me smile, so thank you.”

Thank you for never turning your back.

Thank you for reminding me that I am worth it.

Thank you for being forever.
