Scream Queens

If anyone knows me well they know I am a huge fan of film in general. However, when it comes to October something really awesome happens. Days grow shorter, colder, cloudier, and all you want to do is sit inside and watch one scary movie after the other. Here are some of my personal favorites that make October the amazing month it is.

1. Halloween (1,2,4,H20)

All right let me break it down for you. Halloween is quite possibly the best horror movie ever made. The series itself had a few bumps in the road but we will get to that.

The original Halloween is in a word iconic. From John Carpenter’s genius score to that horrifying mask that was actually a William Shatner mask painted white. I remember watching this movie with my parents when I was a kid and being absolutely terrified, yet wanting to watch it all through October. This past summer I got the amazing opportunity to see John Carpenter perform music from his films live. I could have sat there for three hours watching him play the Halloween theme. This first film, in my opinion, set up the most classic horror movie. Thank you for the nightmares Mr. Carpenter.

With film, especially scary movies, the sequels usually suck, plain and simple. Halloween II proved us wrong beyond words. The idea of picking up right where we left off during “the night he came home” was absolutely genius and gave room to reveal so much we didn't know about that night (for once I won’t spoil the plot, go watch it now!!!)

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, and might I just say THANK YOU FOR BRINGING HIM BACK! To those who thought the Halloween franchise could go on without Michael Myers, I’d love to know what was going through your mind. This fourth film in this horror series got right back to what we loved, being scared to death of Michael Myers

We are about to fast forward all the way to the seventh film in the Halloween franchise, Halloween H20. We are taken 20 Years after the original Halloween to find Laurie Strode still absolutely terrified of Michael Myers, with about 50 different twists along the way. This film brought back our faith in the Halloween franchise, and then they had to f*** it up by creating Halloween: Resurrection

In my opinion, these are the movies in the Halloween franchise that are worth watching. If you wanna be an idiot and watch Halloween 3: Season of the Witch, then go right on ahead.

2. The Exorcist

Another film I watched growing up that scared the hell out of me. Nothing can go wrong when there are a bunch of priests around right?! WRONG! Just about everything goes wrong to the point where your head spins (see what I did there?)

3. Scream (1,2,3,4)

I applaud the late Wes Craven for creating what I believe is the only horror franchise that doesn't have a single bad film in it. What makes the Scream movies so great? In my opinion, it is because it brings up every single cliché we see in a horror movie, makes us think they are going to mess up, and yet each film never lets us down. With every single movie in the franchise, you will be tested and shocked by the end.

4. The Silence of the Lambs

This is for all my thriller fans out there! Imagine a psychotic killer murdering women and taking their skin, all while an FBI agent is getting help on the case from a convicted murderer found guilty of eating people. Need I say more? Also, this is some of the best acting Anthony Hopkins has ever done in his professional career.

5. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “Why the hell would I watch a cartoon as an adult?” UM, it’s called connecting to your childhood! Every single October my family has the tradition of carving pumpkins together and watching this Charlie Brown special. Even though I am nine hours away I still carry on this tradition. It is one of the greatest memories of my childhood and of this amazing time of year. There is nothing like watching Linus roll that pumpkin all the way home with Lucy only for her to stab it and bring the poor kid to tears.

So there you have it folks! A list of just some of the best films October has to offer, granted I’m the type of person that will watch any of these films in the middle of summer. So go out, buy all of these films and more! Sit in the dark, light a pumpkin spice candle, make some popcorn, and curl up with someone who loves this time of year as much as you do!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
