The Best Documentaries on Netflix Right Now

Now that most of us are finally free for the summer, it’s inevitable that most college students will want to spend their first few weeks of freedom winding down from the stress of finals and moving out. Most of us will turn to Netflix and binge watch the shows we weren’t able to watch during the semester. However, while it feels good to catch up on our beloved TV Shows, Netflix has many more options to offer. Here are some of the best documentaries on Netflix you need to see before they disappear.

1. She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry

An up-close look at the birth of the women’s liberation in the 1960’s, She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry is a great effort at shining lights on the darkened places of second wave feminism.

2. Miss Representation

“You can’t be what you can’t see” is the motto of this film that highlights the disparaging image of women in mainstream media and how it hurts younger girls.

3. The Hunting Ground

Taking real life accounts of female college students, The Hunting Ground goes to a place many are afraid to tread. This film calls out the way colleges handle sexual assault on their campuses and how they value their image over justice for the victim.

4. What Happened, Miss Simone?

Taking a look at the epidemic of child obesity, Fed Up takes a unique perspective and puts American corporations and government and its encouragement of unhealthy food under the microscope.

For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
