Poetry: The Best Danger

Everyone knows that sometimes we put ourselves in situations or relationships that we know will put us in danger, but nobody tells you how to get out of it. The imminent desires, willingness to make bad decisions, or whatever you choose to blame it on, push us to chase after our best danger. This poem is meant to reflect this nature of toxic relationships through an abstract lens.

They say danger was the grindstone on which the swordsman whetted his spirit.

Me: the swordsman

You: the danger

A perfect relationship


If you were smoke I'd breath you in

No worries about my lungs

or the smell too strong

catching in my throat


If you were rain I'd leave my umbrella at home

Standing in the cascading droplets

Dampening my clothes

The water slushing in my shoes

keeping me cold


They say the best things in life are often waiting for you at the exit ramp of your comfort zone

and it's true

It's you at the end of my comfort zone
