There comes a time in some people’s lives were they hit they age where they just don’t know what they want for Christmas. Seeing as Christmas is now a glorified, commercialized holiday, the christmas spirit has just been drained from me. That, and because as I grow older, I understand that somethings you want for Christmas you just can’t buy. Now, I’ve understood this for years, but never has it had such a big impact on me until I turned 20. Now, things I want have to genuinely come from people and you can’t buy that, nor can you wrap it up. It's funny how adults will tell you that a time will come when the magic starts to fade. While that may be true, the magic hasn’t disappeared — it has taken a new form. That form can change depending on the person, but for me, nothing would feel more like Christmas than to be alone with my mentee in a warm cozy room while we watch shitty Christmas movies and play games (which I would wreck her in.) This year for me has had more downs than ups, and I can probably say the same for a lot of others. But for one day, a whole 24 hours. If the chaos could just stop, and people realize how important life is, that would be a good Christmas gift too.

Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

It is no secret that many American traditions have changed over time. As we grow older we change in so many ways that it only makes sense that we also change the way we celebrate special occasions. Of course when it comes to the holidays there are some family traditions that many of us still excitedly look forward to, whether it is eating your favorite dish or seeing favorite cousin. However, we all know that the holidays have overall changed a little from what they used to be.
