Sometimes I just need to bust out some old theme songs from my favorite shows of my childhood, and nobody should judge me for that. These songs not only fill me with nostalgia and a sense of familiar comfort from my younger years, but they are simply fantastic tunes. Can we also acknowledge the golden age of teen television that was the 2000's? Thank you. Here's my ultimate ranking of the six most iconic television show theme songs of our generation. Enjoy!
1. Drake & Josh: I Found A Way
Drake Bell singing with his rugged voice and electric guitar always made my eleven-year-old-self feel some type of way! Even if you didn't have an adolescent crush on Drake Bell, this song is just a bop and I don't know how anyone could disagree. Of course, the high pitched "OooOoOoOooh" at the end of this timeless tune really seals the deal for Drake & Josh at the first place ranking.
2. Zoey 101: Follow Me
The little flirty whisper of, "Are you ready?" at the beginning of the song is absolutely fabulous and sets the tone of the show perfectly. Jaime Lynn Spears did not come to play with this one, and I will forever respect her because of this musical masterpiece. This song captures teen romance and young flirtation perfectly, and the theme song has not gotten nearly enough praise in the past fifteen years. Therefore, Zoey 101has secured the second place ranking.
3. Hannah Montana: Best Of Both Worlds
We've all wished we were that small town country girl whose life doubled as an international pop star… Hannah you really got the best of both worlds. This entire show was iconic and the theme song is no different. These were the shows that shaped us as children. And the little "Ooh woah woah yeah's" in the transitions of the show… come on! Iconic. Naturally, Hannah Montana owns our generation; third place for you, Hannah!
4. Wizards of Waverly Place: Everything Is Not What It Seems
Miss Selena! She popped off on Everything Is Not What It Seems with her character's rebellious personality shining through the fast-paced lyrics. We loved this show for Alex's relatable self and her inability to use wizard powers responsibly, and this theme song captures it perfectly. The fourth place ranking goes to Miss Selena. Honorable mention to the song, "What's that? A hat. Crazy funky junky hat. Overslept, hair unsightly, trying to look like Kiera Knightley. We've been there, we've done that. We see right through your funky hat." Yeah, I'm an adult but I still need to sing every word of that song in my head if anyone around me mentions a hat.
5. iCarly: Leave It All To Me
Let's be honest, Miranda Cosgrove was way ahead of her time when she tried to "wake up the members of our nation." We should've listened when the queen of Nickelodeon was calling us in 2007. And when the queen starts singing, you have no choice but to join in on the chorus; no exceptions. Leave It All To Me from iCarly earns a fifth place ranking on the most iconic childhood TV shows of our generation.
6. Victorious: Make It Shine
First of all, every song performed on this show was sung beautifully with fantastic charisma and teen-misfit spunk. I used to wish with every bone in my body that I could go to Hollywood Performing Arts School with Tori Vega and the other talented freaks. But alas, this theme song is all I have left to remember my fleeting childhood dreams of being a singing teen misfit. Sixth place for Victorious (I know the Hollywood Performing Arts kids deserve better than this but it's the best I can do, I'm sorry.) I'd also like to give an honorable mention to Freak The Freak Out and Best Friend's Brother for being amazing songs from Victorious as well.
I hope you got something out of my ultimate ranking of the most iconic television show theme songs of our generation. I know I feel amazing now that I have every Hannah Montana transition stuck in my head. Until the next time I need to rank something unnecessary...
