1. Hamilton
I mean... Hamilton isn't one of the best. It is THE best show I've ever seen on Broadway. I'm usually into showstoppers (as you'll probably see throughout this article). Lin-Manuel Miranda said in an interview that he read the book by Ron Chernow and immediately thought, "How hasn't anyone made a musical about this?" I mean, only a genius thinks that way in my opinion. The storyline is incredible and the music is phenomenal. What makes this all so amazing is that Lin took a subject that some might think is dry and boring and set it to contemporary music.
2. If/Then
If/Then was the first show I ever saw on Broadway. This show is about a woman who is at a major cross-road in her life and wonders what would happen if she made one choice versus another. It really made me think about the decisions I make in my life and how my life could go into two different paths. Idina Menzel starred in this show as the main character. Hearing her live for the first time was one of the best experiences of my life. She is known as the first Elphaba in Wicked and Maureen in Rent.
3. Aladdin
I don't care what anyone says. Aladdin is one of the best shows I've seen live because of its amazing showstoppers. This show brought me to tears when Jasmine and Aladdin started singing 'A Whole New World'. James Monrow Iglehart who plays Genie was breathtaking. I remember my jaw dropping after his big number. I was amazed at how they brought an animated Disney movie to life.
4. Les Mis
Les Mis is the story of an ex-convict who decides to turn his life around. This show is a must-see classic. I sat in the very last row of the balcony and I was still so amazed. The music, the sets, the actors were all so phenomenal. It seriously took my breath away and I was so happy I was able to see the revival before it closed.
If you ever get to see any Broadway show, you definitely should! It takes us out of the world for a couple of hours and lets us appreciate art. I will always love theatre and the way it makes me feel. These just happen to be a few of my favorite Broadway shows.
