If you've spent enough time browsing through Netflix, you've probably seen your fair share of strange shows. There are Korean westerns, Romances from India, and a lot of random sitcoms and dramas in between. Not all of it is terribly amazing, but there are always gems to be found. And one of the best gems is "Crazyhead."
Pictured above are the protagonists of the series, Raquel and Amy, two relatively normal women who it turns out can see demons. Amy believes she is hallucinating, and runs into Raquel at the mental hospital. Raquel has no doubt the demons are real, and does her best to help Amy come to terms with it. Soon, they catch the attention of a group of demons that are hatching an evil plan. There are twists and turns as these women come to terms with demons walking around southern England, but at the core of this series it is a raucously funny show - with a lot of heart and personality mixed in.
Raquel is a socially awkward misfit, and her directness comes across as a better written Sheldon Cooper. She is aggressive and confident in everything in her life, but when it comes to talking to this new girl Amy, she has moments where she realizes she may be coming on too strong and sounding crazy.
Amy, on the other hand, is perfectly average. She works at a bowling alley, staves off the annoying flirtations of her co-worker, and goes to parties with her roommate. We follow her growth as she realizes these demons are real, and see an incredible friendship blossom between her and Raquel.
Really, Amy's heart is the core of the show, and even though she is terrified of what is happening, she perseveres to help her friends. Even the jerk co-worker takes up a place in her heart. Just as a friend, though.
The leading actresses are incredible, who you may recognize from other British shows. Most notably, Cara Theobold (Amy) is the voice of Tracer in Blizzards hit video game Overwatch.
If you ever tire of binging "Supernatural" or "Buffy," (though how could you?) "Crazyhead" is a wonderful step in a slightly different, more crass and humorous, direction.
