I recently have spent some time exploring different music thanks to Spotify. It's been fun and doesn't impeded on my work time as I can listen and explore while also being productive. During this time of exploration I have found some pretty cool artists and would be remiss if I didn't let the world know all about them. Here are some of the newest artists I am obsessed with on Spotify these days.

1. Wolf Alice

This band out of North London has a diverse sound that enraptures. With songs that range from grunge rock to electronic, you never know what combination they will put out and that's the fun of it all. Their song "Beautifully Unconventional" is a must listen.

2. Portishead

Formed in Bristol, England, this band has a unique, haunting, sound that is accentuated by the breathy yet powerful voice lead singer, Beth Gibbons possesses. Popular in the 1990s, their must listens include "Sour Times" and "Glorybox" and from there you might just find yourself hooked.

3. Esperanza Spalding

I was aware of Esperanza Spalding prior to listening to her. I have always been a Corinne Bailey Rae fan and Spalding is in the same vein as Rae, making me aware I needed to check her out. Spaulding has an addictive jazzy blues sound that reels you in, and once you're there you will only want more. "I Know You Know" is a great starter song, and from there, explore.

4. Wu-Tang Clan

Another band I was always aware I needed to listen to, but never had the time until I heard them on a Snoop Dog/Dr. Dre inspired playlist. Once I had a listen I decided to listen to a whole lot more. With that classic gangster rap sound and fantastic rhythms, Wu-Tang Clan has always been iconic, and will continue to be. "Shame on a N*gga" is one of my favorites and one to try out for sure.

5. Joshua James

An indie folk rock artist, Joshua James has a bluesy voice with a touch of gravel, and a good repertoire mostly undiscovered. Worth a listen on a cool rainy day, "Broken Tongue" is James' best song to try out.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
