School is finally over. While we have a break from classes, there is no break from work.
Coming home for break is great until you realize it isn't really a break. Working five days a week rather than going to classes for the summer really makes you wonder if summer break is really summer break. Alas, going to work is a necessity in order to be able to run free for the summer.
I also use the summer to think because...
I'm a planner.
For me, summer is not just about tan lines and beaches (but trust me I wish it were). During the summer, I'm already thinking about the next academic school year. Knowing that I still have exams and papers to come, even if they're three months away, stresses me out to some degree.
I want to do the best I possibly can and sometimes having no academic work feels weird because I feel like I should be proactive about next year and start getting things done, even if there's nothing to be done just yet.
Junior year is a beast in a lot of different ways. Junior year says you have two more years left in college, your academics are getting much harder as you begin to climb into those upper-level classes, and if you're like me and heading into law school right after college, junior year is the time to STUDY.
It is no secret that to get into law school or graduate school, or any school of a higher education you need to take an exam to get in. Think of it as the college level SATs, but a lot more draining. So in addition to my bikini tan line, maybe I'll get a book tan line too.
With everything going on, no wonder why summer seems to go by so fast. It is now mid-May and I've realized the past two weeks have gone by much faster than they should have.
It's easy to be drowned by work and stressed beyond belief, but honestly, that's not what summer is about. Take a breather, enjoy the weather, because soon we'll all be back to school stressing about exams again.
