The Beauty Of The Summertime Rain

Let the soft "drip-drop" of the rain take you away.

In the summer when it rains, the air gets heavy and you can smell the moisture in the air. It suddenly begins to cool down, and the wind picks up. Before you know it you are watching water fall from the sky at an increasingly fast rate. It might start off as a mist and progress into a heavier rain, or it might start off as a full-on torrential downpour. It's one of my favorite things, especially when there's a rumble of thunder to accompany it in the distance. Why exactly do I love the rain during the summertime? Because I find it so relaxing. Especially after a scorching hot day, there's nothing better than the 20 degree temperature drop that comes with it.

The rain brings a calmness along with it as well. The quiet pitter-patter on the roof of your house or car, brings a sound that can put you in a trance. It's quiets my mind and my thoughts because I focus in on the sound the raindrops make as they hit the surface. A sense of calm and serenity comes over you, and the sleepiness that you have been feeling all day finally begins to hit you, and you might decide to take a nap if you can.

There's nothing better than a rainy-day nap. When you're already in a fog from the clouds and feeling more tired than usual, there's nothing better than curling up under the covers and sleeping it off. It also makes for a great time to catch up on reading. Rainy days were tailor-made for reading. The quiet that is outside, made by the white noise of the rain hitting the ground, make for an excellent background noise to help you focus on your book.

A rainy day also gives you some time to get things done around the house. Whether it's cleaning and catching up on laundry, or just spending time organizing your closet and movie collection, there's no better time than a rainy day to get some housekeeping and chores done. You can also use the time to spend some quiet time with your family or people that are most important to you. What is there to lose when there's no reason to go outside? Have a movie or game day, and just spend the day enjoying each other's company.

And the best part is: all of this can be done without feeling guilty for missing out on the warm summer weather.

I always enjoy the rain. Year-round it brings a sense of relaxation to me that few other things can. But in the summer, it becomes just that much better. It helps slow down the busy and jam packed days of summer, even if it is just for a few moments. And we all know that we want to make summer last as long as we can.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
