Conquering two birds with one stone.

The Beauty Of Online Summer School

As a college student, when you think of summer you think of summer school and unless you’re traveling across Europe or interning for some fancy company, summer school is where you’ll be every Monday through Friday. Although it feels like summer and it looks like summer, you can’t do any of the “summer things” because attendance in summer school is no joke. But what if I had a solution for you? What if there was a class that didn’t tie you down and didn’t tell you when to wake up, well you’ve probably guessed it, that class is online.

I’d be lying if I said my online summer classes haven’t changed my entire summer so instead, here are some of the places your online class can be held.

In bed, of course! The ultimate beauty of online class is to wake up for class without setting the alarm. If you are used to setting five+ alarms, get ready to enjoy some long-deserved beauty sleep. You get to wake up when ever you want, and after checking your social media accounts you can get to studying. Having class at home means around the clock snacks and naps when you are too worn out.

By the pool. Aka you can be tan and have As, how perfect is that? Reading your textbook by the pool is not only relaxing but it can also put the fun into reading a book for school. If it gets too hot, your apartment’s clubhouse is sure to have study rooms.

At your home sweet home. Everyone gets homesick every once in a while so if you feel like you need to go home on a Wednesday, go home on a Wednesday. Mom will love the surprise and she is ready to cook all your favorites for you. The good thing about having class in your hometown is you can decide when to leave rather than attending to a class schedule.

Out of town. Whether it’s in your friend’s college town or across the country, as long as you bring your laptop, you have school. You could finish your school work by noon and then out and about for the rest of the day.

After work. Some brave souls have decided to work this summer so if you are trying to increase those hours to save for your next vacay but you also have to do summer school, online is the way to do it. You could easily finish your assignments after a day of work and truly conquer two birds with one stone.

On your college campus. If you’re the type that needs to be on campus to feel focused, online class can still be for you! Go to your favorite outdoor spot, bring your hammock and you’re good to go.

What makes online summer school so great is that you get to do what you would normally do during the summer while knocking out a few summer courses along the way. Online class is perfect if you want to maximize your summer and have fun!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
