The Beauty of Art

It is more than just a brush to a canvas.

The Beauty of Art
Vincent Van Gogh

Art is a variety of things. To some it is paintings and sculptures. To others it is music and theater. To me, it is everything. I find beauty that leaves me breathless as I walk around outside. Just like no two snowflakes are the same, no two clouds or days are the same either. As humans, they may seem repetitive and redundant, yet they are not. Each day is a gift, filled with new art. Art is not something that is completely confined by words. Art is a creation that differs and comes in many different forms. I believe that everyone is capable of creation. In fact, everyone is an artist without truly knowing it. I would argue that each personals individual dialect could be considered art that we are born with. Art is not a concrete term. Ironically, art can be described by nothing else except art.

We are entitled to our own opinions of art. The vast majority of the population seems to believe that they are entitled to determine if a work can be considered art or not. The school systems should be some to take the blame for this issue. Personally, I have had an art teacher in high school that would passive aggressively push her artistic beliefs on students. As a result, students, including myself, were not able to create the art that we wanted to make. I feel like this is a major issue that many are not aware of. It is an issue that is under looked. Many teachers do not even realize the impact that they have on a class full of young students. It is valued for students to receive inspiration from teachers, and even to see first-hand the artists style and take on things. However, the teacher should encourage full creative freedom. Similar to politics, ideas can be stated, but they should not be discussed I depth in fear of changing the person’s opinion by fear of rejection.

Art has been evolving since the beginning of time. It amazes me how similar art is compared to the first findings of caveman art. The differences in the different styles of art is so interesting to look back on, particularly architecture. After traveling around Europe, I was amazed to see how different buildings in America and Europe look. The modern world of architecture has simplified its design in my opinion. Architecture is a form of art that is underappreciated by the vast majority of people. I particularly prefer European ancient architecture. I am a huge fan of the small details in buildings. I am always blown away to look at detailed buildings and sculptures. It makes me wonder how it was done, especially things such as Stonehenge and the pyramids in Egypt. Architecture is something that I have noticed evolves over time, and does not go through phases like paintings do. The building designs from city to city varies, and shows the growth.

I often wonder who will come out of future generations that we will witness. Will there be any artists who see a rise to fame, only for it to fall after death? Or will there be a plethora of artists who never see fame in their lifetime? Each generation of artists provide something new and exciting to the art world. It saddens me to know that I may never get the chance to find out what my generation will be known for in all types of art. I also ponder upon the fact that there would be artists from each form that I may have had the chance to know in my lifetime. My generation has so much to offer to the world, and I cannot wait to see everyone reach their achievements.

Art is not one specific thing to pinpoint. Art is many things. Art is everything. One reason why people love art so much, is because it is widely accepted. Art does not segregate. Art does not turn the unaccredited away. Art allows and encourages expression and emotion, which is difficult for some people to do. Art is wondrous, and comforting to many. Art tells stories through multiple platforms, and encourages others to do the same. Often times artists are looked down upon for not having sustainable careers, however I disagree. It is more valuable to have a means of expression that will tell anecdotes and lessons to people all around the world. Artists have a confidence that no one else utilizes. While one is telling a story to a friend, the other is telling a story to the world. Art is extremely underappreciated, and schools should place more emphasis on it, while omitting letting personal views of art misconstrue in order to encourage the future generations to continue making their mark on the world through art. Art is more than taking a brush to canvas. Art is a means of expression in life, and can be executed through various forms. Art is essential, and should never be forgotten.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
