The Basic White Girl's Guide To Summer At Starbucks

This summer there will be a lot of catching up with friends, going out with people at work and undeniable late-night coffee runs. Want to enjoy sweet treats but not gain five pounds this summer? Well, I’ve got you covered. This is the Basic White Girl's Guide to Summer Starbucks (Healthy Edition)!

Drinks Under 250 Calories:

The Coffee Frappuccino

Order a tall coffee frappuccino with skim milk if you’re going to Happy Hour! It’s got only 160 calories and 0 grams of fat. And I promise it’s still super sweet!

The Caramel Macchiato

Get a tall nonfat caramel macchiato and don’t stress! It’s 140 calories and only has 1.5 grams of fat. If you’re really thirsty, the nonfat grande is only 210 calories and fat only goes up by a half of a gram.

The Iced Vanilla Latte

Sometimes you just need a flavor with that espresso. A grande with skim milk has no fat and is just 160 calories!

The Iced Mango Black Tea Lemonade

A grande is just 120 calories and has no fat! But I wouldn’t go higher than the grande because then the grams of sugar really go up.

The Iced Chai Latte

A tall with nonfat milk is 150 calories and has no fat! Grande comes in at 200 calories.

The Shaken Iced Passion Tango Tea

Get a sweetened grande and be under 100 calories and have only 20 grams of sugar!

The Java Chip Frappuccino

Okay, so it’s gonna take a little work to get this under 250 calories - but it’s possible! Order a tall, skip the whip and get nonfat milk. You’ll still get all the java chips inside and it has only 3 grams of fat and 230 calories. Note: That whip cream adds 90 calories and 8 grams of fat!

Things To Remember:

Nonfat milk is key

At first things might taste a little different because of it, but once you go skim you won’t go back. It will let you get larger drinks for the same calories/fat intake!

You can change the # of pumps of syrup in your drink

This is an important thing people don’t know. My sister loves her Venti Green Teas but she always asks for only two pumps of syrup. It makes things less sweet, but also drops your sugar intake by a ton!

Spare the whip

Do you honestly taste the whip? Not really. So don’t add the almost 100 calories and the extra fat!

If you don’t mind the taste of Splenda, than “Skinny” drinks are a good option

Starbucks does have a “Skinny” option for a lot of their drinks but it’s not my favorite. I personally can really taste the Splenda and there is a lot of debate over whether it’s good for you or not. If you don’t mind it, though, and want to lose some calories, order your next iced latte, skinny.

Important Note:

Just because these drinks are lower on the caloric and fat side, doesn’t mean they are the best things. The sugar in a lot of these is still WAY more than what is recommended. So if you’re trying to cut back on sugar, definitely drop the number of pumps of syrup!

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
