So I think we can all agree that last season’s Ben Higgins gave us the best season of the "Bachelor/Bachelorette" of all time. Even though I just recently became a fan of the show last season, I think it’s safe to say that Ben Higgins' season gained the show a lot more attention and a larger fan base than what it usually receives.
One reason why I think me and the rest of America fell so in love with Ben and his 28 bachelorettes is because they all seemed so genuine. Ben Higgins truly seemed like a guy that was there to find his future wife rather than for any fame or paycheck he might receive. Similarly, his bachelorettes seemed to have the right intentions as well. I believe Ben's season was the biggest hit of all because both sides were so genuine. Contrary to the last season of "The Bachelor" that we all fell in love with, JoJo’s premiere of "The Bachelorette" was less than impressive. Can you say STAGED?
Last season, JoJo honestly looked like an authentic girl who just wanted to find her lifetime companion, but the premiere of her season of "The Bachelorette" was a little underwhelming for a couple of reasons.
I hope I’m not the only one who seemed to feel like the show was noticeably more staged than the last season of "The Bachelor." I mean come on, we all know that JoJo did not willingly give Daniel, the white-boy-wasted Canadian who dove into the pool in his underwear, a rose on the first night. This was obviously a manipulation by ABC to make the show more interesting and bring in more money yada yada yada.
But to what extent is manipulation OK? If the show’s honest goal was to find this beautiful and deserving woman a husband, then that rose should’ve gone to a man JoJo could see potential in rather than to a weirdo who might "spice up the show a little bit." Sure it’ll be interesting to see what this wild Canadian pulls off in upcoming shows, but if it were up to me, and I’m sure lots of other fans across America, we’d rather see the authenticity that made us fall in love with the show in the first place.
Once I begin to feel like the show is being too manipulated, or that the contestants are talking like they’re reading from scripts, I lose interest. If I wanted to watch something overly staged I would’ve watched a soap opera instead.
The guys just don’t seem to be there for the right reasons. And maybe this is just me being cynical about the general nature of men but maybe it’s not. There were probably two men out of that group of 26 that I felt had honest intentions. I mean let’s be real, half of them seemed to treat the first night as a party rather than a night they could potentially meet their future wife. A portion of the guys just got way too drunk and ended up embarrassing themselves and JoJo on national television. This is sad, and had I been in JoJo’s position, I would’ve been upset that they would treat such a night like a joke.
I wanted to give this show the benefit of the doubt and think that all the interactions and relationships that stem from this show are sincere, but this season has started to make me think otherwise. Sure these guys might be in love at the conclusion of this season, but it won’t be with JoJo, it’ll be with all their newfound fame and fortune.
