I'm not typically the girl to swoon over the concept of reality TV. Romance movies and novels, sure, but shows like "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" and "Real Housewives" have never been my cup of tea. That being said, shows like this seem to enthrall the majority of the country for reasons we may or may not agree with. One of these shows that have officially become my kryptonite is "The Bachelorette."
This season, Hannah B. (the runner-up from Colton Underwood's season of "The Bachelor") is setting sail in far-off places to find a man. I've never agreed with the idea of a TV show practically forcing the idea of engagement in a three-month-or-less span, but there's something that keeps me coming back for more.
I can't even remember why I actually tuned in that very first night of the season, but alas, I did. And that's when it all went downhill (I'm being dramatic of course). My mom and I watched as man after man showed up to the mansion. We cringed at the weird introduction packages (anyone remember the "box king?") and swooned at suitors who seemed like a fairytale.
Right off the bat, I knew I liked at least a handful of guys, my favorite being Peter Weber or "Pilot Pete" as he's now known. Unfortunately, I also liked Luke P. for a time, although I think it was really only because he said he was Christian. If we're being honest, the way the show has portrayed him doesn't reflect his proclaimed faith to me, but that's just one gal's opinion. I also rooted for guys like Jed and had my heart crushed when the news surfaced about him having a girl back home. Whether that's true or not, even the rumor of it certainly puts a damper on things.
This season has had its ups and downs. It's made me laugh, scream, and almost cry at points. While I respect Hannah, I will say it's infuriating when she keeps around guys who treat her poorly, not knowing what she truly deserves as a proclaimed daughter of God. There are also obvious things I disagree with from a moral standpoint, but as I said, that's up to Hannah to figure out for herself.
One thing has remained constant, however. I still root for Pilot Pete to this day and, regardless of if he wins Hannah's heart, I'll want a picture if I ever see him in an airport!
