Another year, another season of The Bachelor. Everyone is patiently waiting to see what will go down on this season. Will there be a proposal? Or will there be another Arie repeat?
The upcoming bachelor is former football pro, Colton Underwood. He was made famous from being on Becca's season of The Bachelorette. He then left the show after it was made clear that he still had feelings for one of Becca's friends, Tia.
Now, the producers of the show could have used that to promote the upcoming season. It hasn't stopped them before (remember all of the promotion for Becca's season?). But no, they had to go one step further.
This time they are revolving all of the promotion around Colton still being a virgin. This was made clear when he was competing on The Bachelorette. From that moment further, everyone knew he would become the next bachelor because the producers had something to run with.
Yes, the whole point of marketing is to find an aspect of what you're promoting that will capture audiences attention. What's more interesting than a 30-year-old former football player virgin? To The Bachelor audience probably nothing more.
Being a fan of the franchise, it gets sort of tiring watching them constantly promote something to the entire world that shouldn't have even been used in the first place. It wouldn't be such a bother if it was something more tasteful, but it's not.
So far, all of the clips used in the trailers for the show have revolved around the fantasy sweet or a variation of girls using innuendos when first meeting him. Personally, I'm very over this exploitation. However, I will be watching the upcoming season because even the most cynical one towards this franchise has to see who he will pick.
While I know this won't end the producers using any little bit of the contestant's private lives to promote the show, using things like this needs to stop. Maybe in the future, they won't use such personal aspects to have the show gain viewers.
