The Average Flower

A flower compared to lust

Lust is like a flower,

Ready to bloom and spread its fragrance,

Petals full of beauty,

And a stem stronger than a heart

The more beauty this flowers intakes the more petals

The life around it awards it like a medal

But the flower goes nowhere so it settles

When it settles it finds meaning,

It doesn't need to keep seeking,

For it leads others over its way,

With its beauty on display,

The flower loses love day after day

It starts to lose color and becomes black gray

No matter how bad it got the flower still stayed

As the wind blew the flower swayed,

It started to lose its petals and beauty,

That which was once on display was not hidden,

Left to rot,

It looked sicken,

But that's how nature makes it,

So much for settling down,

The flower is now settled under the ground

Under the ground and through soil

The flower is still awaken through the oil

Why suffer underground when you can be free on top

Why settle down when you cannot stop

Why give up on life and just lay there and rot

Keep pushing through this and don't you stop

As the flower found inspiration,

It leads itself to salvation,

It finally realized reality,

It came to accept mentality,

It stayed patient,

And stopped waiting,

It rose up again,

And regained its domain

The flower gained back its beauty and heart

It has the mind of a genius and has the beauty mark

As it gains and rises from where it start

It captures the sunlight and spreads the love through the park

This flower is now a testimony that the world is designed for us to push through the struggles we face,

It's a sign of beauty

A symbol of grace

It's strength runs strongly throughout those around it,

Look at the beauty it now emits

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
