It all started with me sitting with a friend late one night, and we all know how that goes. It starts from jokes early in the night to the deepest of all possible conversations by the time its midnight. You know, the ones that can last for hours. Yes, those; however, this one, in particular, caught my attention and so I figured I could start this blog with this topic as a good start to introduce myself as well as what this blog is about.
I'm Kyle. Currently 18 and in college trying to figure out life without the manual. No such luck yet, but I am not dead so I guess that is a good sign. As you may have figured out, I love photography! I am studying journalism along with Spanish and theatre for a chance at achieving my dream job one day which is to travel the world. I do not feel like ranting on myself all at once, so you will figure out more about me as I continue this blog.
Getting to the point of this post, what is the artist's dilemma? To be an artist is to be a person skilled at a task or occupation. But there is a constant dilemma that every artist faces. What sets someone apart from the rest? From the beginning of human history, art emerged from the human mind. Humans have existed for about 200,000 years. In that time span, there have been infinite thoughts on how to express one's self or further ideas to innovate the world. From the wheel to the constant cellular inventions, the human mind throughout history has experienced infinite ideas, some expressed and others long gone. Here is the dilemma I am speaking of: how can one be original?
Think of it like this. Wouldn't it be nice if google told you if you were to be the first person ever to Google an idea? I mean let's face it. Google is practically one big human brain composed of all of the ideas and questions typed into it. Its database is so vast, it is usually reliable on almost anything someone can question. Google has not even been out for a very long time, yet millions of others have already searched what you are typing into the search bar because it eventually highlights itself almost instantly or after a couple of words.
Think of that but with art instead. How can one think of something so innovative and original to the world that no one has ever done before? I mean of course with the help of technology, but seriously. A single thought or idea that has not been thought of before. How cool is it that in all of human history, it took almost 200,000 years for someone to think of an idea that has never been thought of before. And to be even more inquisitive, what about all of the ideas that have been original, but the creator of the idea did not think it to be original and never expressed it. How different the world could be because of the lack of confidence in people and their ideas.
I guess the point I am getting at is this is the reason why the world of fine arts is so competitive because everyone has a common goal: set one's self apart from the rest with someone to offer at the table. The table being your opportunity and prosperity and your offer being your ideas and product, whether that product is physical or not. It does not only apply to the world of fine arts either but it definitely most common within it.
Anyways, that is the end of my first rant. There will be more eventually but have to find some more inspiration. I have a few ideas.
Till next time!
