There is something magical about small elements (i.e. ingredients) coming together to create a larger product (i.e. the dish). When I have the time (and drive), I enjoy whipping out the pots and spices to make a meal. The time it takes to make a dish varies—especially considering the amount of time one has. Regardless, sometimes I just experience an urge to cook. That may sound odd to some people, but others may be able to relate. It is a nice, relaxing experience to just make cuisine for yourself and/or others.
I have been interested in cooking for as long as I can remember. One of my starting recipes was simply making buttered bread on a pan when I was six, and now I have moved up to making chicken curry and fried rice. Most of what I have learned has been through my mom in addition to recipes I have found on my own. Through my cooking journey, there has been some trial and error for I have burned my food and burned myself. So, it has definitely been a learning process, but I am grateful for it.
Cooking can be experimental and enjoyable, as there are a multitude of ideas available. One of my favorite aspects about any recipe is that it is completely adaptable. The choice to use measurements is completely up to the chef; there is nothing wrong with "eyeing it." Ingredients can be swapped out, and any dish you can make you can make your own. Some examples include using oil as an alternative for butter or choose quinoa over rice. The internet is a hub for recipe ideas, and these can serve as baselines.
The art form that is cooking is as difficult as you make it to be. I find pleasure in combining components to make something that looks and tastes appetizing. Now, the next time you prepare yourself a meal, take the time to appreciate the process of creating it. The end product will be worth it.
