When you start stressing as soon as you look at your syllabus.

Community College Review

For many, the first week of the new semester has started either this past week or relatively soon. I always find myself thinking, "woo syllabus week, we do nothing!" but also have that giant knot of worry in my stomach after looking at all the things I'll be doing during the semester.

A semester flies by quicker than anything and at first glance at the syllabus, if you're like me, you start slightly freaking out. Even though I am still working on controlling my stress and anxiety that college has brought on me, I want to at least share some of the techniques that have eased my nerves the past two semesters.

1. Go to class that first day

Pay attention to the first day of class. Yes, it will seem like the most annoying and pointless day ever because you JUST go over the syllabus, but if you don't at least get a glimpse on what's on it, you may look at it one day and see that you have a test or something due in a day.

2. Mark important dates in a planner

When you get back from class, I legitimately try to be as organized as possible and go through when tests, papers, or projects are due and write them in my planner. At least I know with my major, there are so many different testing dates and times that are so much easier to prepare for when you write them down and actually look at.

3. Take one day at a time

After figuring out the things that are due on which days, breathe. Yes, I know this is hard and I'm still working on it, but try to remember just to take one day at a time. Make use of the time you have and remember to give yourself breaks to relax.

4. Get to the gym

Working out clears you mind and you feel great after, so whenever you're super stressed, take a trip to your school gym because it's most likely free with your tuition and you'll be able to get all your stress of the day out in a workout. Personally, instead of studying an hour or two before a test, I'll go to the gym to relieve whatever fears I have instead, which I find helpful.

Hopefully, remembering these key things and knowing that you aren't alone can start you off with a little less anxiety from looking at all the things you will have to do this semester. Be on top of things, but at the same time remember that everyone makes mistakes and you may make the mistake of cramming for that test you completely forgot about. You will get through this semester and all the stress it brings.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
