The Answer Is Coffee

All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to copious amounts of coffee.

Does your new years resolution involve giving up caffeine?

Good—mine doesn’t either.

It boggles my brain to think we’re all stuck in this perfectly brewed trance that convinces us waiting in line behind 15 cars will be worth the deliciousness that is iced coffee. I’d be lying if I said I'm immune to this trap.

Oh, iced coffee isn’t your order? Well let’s find out what is.

1. Is That A Milkshake?

No, it’s a Frappuccino. This beautiful blend of slush, espresso, milk and whipped cream excites the 12-year-old in all of us. You either haven’t dipped your toes in the greatness that is rich bodied coffee or you just prefer to spice up your life with this little slice of sugar heaven. Whip or no whip, this is the kind of milkshake is bringing everyone to the yard. Be selfish, my sweet friend—just watch out for slight brain freeze.

2. The Love-You-A-Latte

Hot or cold, whole milk or skim, this luxurious boost of energy tickles your palette while getting you ready for your morning meeting. Although a drink more mature than our blend-loving-bunch, you probably don’t tango with the idea of pouring coffee straight out of the pot and hitting the road.

3. Macchiato Mayhem

Taking another step toward the dark side, this espresso-based drink seems to be a fan favorite of twenty-something ladies who are kicking toosh in the working world. Sometimes used as a meal replacement when ordered as a venti—see Starbucks lingo if you don’t know what that means—these just-sweet-enough sips of delight and espresso are in hot—and cold—demand.

4. Plain Jane & Dark As Night

One time for my cold press lovers, one time for my drip coffee woes—you’ve figured out which coffee shops have the best pours without all the (literal) fluff. Maybe you add a splash of half-and-half or maybe you’ve learned the hard way where to clarify “no sweetener, no cream”—I’m looking at you, Starbucks. Regardless, you’re the die-hard who needs a grande every day as dark as your soul.

Obviously there are more than four types of drinks with the ability to provide a boost of energy or a mid-day treat. This year, dare to be adventurous in the wonderful world of coffee. Try something new—you may open up your palette to a multitude of caffeine possibilities. Here's a coffee drink guide created by Greatist to get you started.

Cheers, my coffee-loving friends. May the boldness be with you.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
