City of Stars? More like 'City of Awards'!
The critically acclaimed La La Land has been sweeping all aspects of the award shows left and right this award season. The movie made history at the Golden Globes this year by winning all seven of the awards it was nominated for.
Among some of them being: best motion picture, best actor, and actress in a musical or comedy, as well as best original song.
The film was also nominated 12 times at the Critics' Choice Awards taking home eight of them.
And yesterday at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, while not being nominated for Best Picture, La La Land 's Emma Stone took home Best Female Actor in a Leading Role, while Ryan Gosling lost Best Male Actor in a Leading Role to Fences' Denzel Washington.
But the most impressive and ground-breaking achievements this film has attained is that this spectacular film has been nominated for 14 Oscars, tying with All About Eve and Titanic for the most nominations of all time.
But what is it about this spectacular film that makes it so spectacular?
The film directed by Damien Chazelle takes place in 1980's sunny Los Angeles, California and goes on the journey of Sebastian, played by Ryan Gosling, and Mia, played by Emma Stone, who are drawn together based on their common desire to do what they love. But as their success starts to pick up they are faced with decisions that begin to tear at their love affair and at the dreams they've worked so hard to achieve.
But what is it about this plot that has everyone spinning in their seats, and telling everyone they know? This movie reminds us of a simpler time. A time when we thought the 'American Dream' was as achievable as dreaming. A story about when a boy meets a girl and they fall in love. But even with this simple concept, there's something else that draws the crowd in.
This film is a musical. A real authentic musical. La La Land consists of 14 beautifully produced songs. And every song is paired with a choreographed dance that depicts everything we want to see. There is no modern movie like it, which sets it apart in so many fantastic ways.
The movie, which was produced with a budget of only $30 million has grossed $179 million worldwide!
So to say the least if you haven't already seen this film, I strongly advise you to see it as soon as you can. As this movie may be one that will go down in movie history.
And stay tuned to see how well the film tops off award season at the Oscars, Sunday, February 26 at 7 P.M. on ABC.
