When you think of Smith College, what do you think of? Is it the brave activists? Is it the beautiful Paradise Pond where everyone goes to unwind in the nice weather? If those aren't two of the things you think of, have no fear! This list spells out everything there is to know about Smith. Every Smithie will be able to recognize all the letters of this alphabet:

A - Activism.

We fight for what we believe in!

B - Botanic Gardens.

What's better than going to see the bulb shows?

C - CC Cafe.

My mouth is watering just thinking about their chicken tender wrap.

D - Dining Dollars

We only get 25 dollars, but that's enough for at least 4 chicken tender wraps.

E - English

It's the only required part of our Smith education. One sill little writing intensive, and then we are home free to take whatever we choose.

F - Ford Hall

Ford Hall. The building for sciences and engineering is like a study palace. It stays open all night long. As long as you're a science student, or you're friends with a science student, this can be your humble abode. It even has a shower!

G - Grab And Go

They have everything to help your busy lunch time fix. And if they don't... at least there is peanut butter and jelly.

H - Houses

What's a dorm? At Smith, we all live in houses. Most of us have our own rooms, and the house community is incredible. We love our HP's and Res Life. And no, we are all not just one giant sorority.

I - ITT and Ainsworth Gym

J - J Term / Drunk Term

The best time of the year. When you can come back to Smith and actually relax and enjoy everything the college has to offer without the pressure of classes. And maybe have a drink or too with your friends.

K - Kathy (President McCartney)

She's a frig, and we love her (Most of the time). You know it, and I know it.

L - LGBTQ

"The L Word," anyone?

M - Mountain Day

The only day at Smith that I know of that causes actual riots.

N - Neilson Library

During finals, this place is open until 2 A.M. and I just think that is incredible.

O - Otelia Cromwell Day

In honor of Otelia Cromwell, Smith's first African American graduate, there is a whole day of lectures and events. Afternoon classes are canceled, too. That rules.

P - Paradise Pond

A place of peace and serenity for Smithies. This place truly makes our campus great.

Q - Quad

It's beautiful in it's set up, but at night it turns into a battle field of raging Smithies running around the quad. We always see that domino's car driving through come 2 A.M. on a Sunday morning.

R - Rally Day

Seniors wear funny hats and their graduation robes so they can find out their commencement speaker and eat free snacks in the C.C.

S - Sylvia Plath/Sophia Smith

The two great "S" women that Smith is known for.

T - Theater

Smith's Mendenhall is newly refurbished and hosts on so many performances it makes my head spin. Oh, and Josten Library is nice, too.

U - Umbrellas

Because it's not always sunny in Northampton.

V - Viola Davis

Because the magnificent star of "How to Get Away With Murder" will be here at Smith on 3/2 giving a talk.

W - Wifi

Is it e-d-u roam or edu-roam? The world may never know.

X - (Job) X

I know I know. Job X, doesn't start with an X. But where else would you find all of your on-campus and off-campus jobs? This place needed adding to the list.

Y- Yearly Tuition

Shhh. Shhh. Just cry it out. Everything will be okay.

Z - Zipcar

Before I got to Smith, I never even heard of a Zipcar. But there I was first year, renting a Zipcar to drive to the Holyoke Mall. Smith has so many wonderful resources for us. I love Zipcars, to be honest.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
