From the letter A to the letter Z, Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) has everything you need and more to have a college experience unlike any other.

A is for Athletics

Football
Baseball
Basketball

B is for Beyond Expectation

C is for Class

You should probably go sometimes

China King

Crimson Hawks

"Crimson - White; Hawks, Let's Fight!"

D is for Driscoll

Our University President since 2012, Michael Driscoll has done wonderful things for IUP and the Indiana Community. The IUP Website reads, "Before his arrival in 2012, Driscoll served as the executive vice chancellor and provost of the University of Alaska Anchorage, a position he took after serving in various posts at Portland State University in Oregon. He earned his PhD in 1988, his MS in 1985, and his BS in 1983, all in electrical engineering at Michigan State University." If you get the chance to meet him, I would recommend taking it!

Dance Explosion and Drill Team

E is for Einsteins

The line may stretch well past the Delaware Room, but you bet it's worth it once you can indulge in your choice of Bagel and/or your favorite beverage.

F is for Folger

Our new and improved buffet style dining hall that replaced Foster Hall this Fall 2016 offers a wide variety of food options (most that differ on a day-to-day basis). Folger has a very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere perfect for every meal of the day.

G is for Greek Life

H is for Homecoming

IUP Homecoming is generally one of the most enjoyable weekends on campus. That and IUPatty's celebrated in the Spring Semester for Saint Patricks Day (IUPatty's). Whatever you do during both of these weekends -- don’t touch the Horses, unless you ask first!

The HUB

The HUB is home to the IUP Co-Op Store, a vast number of rooms for clubs and organizations, the on-campus bank (PNC), the HUB Gym, HUB Rock II (soon to undergo renovations expected to be finished for Fall 2016), and BACCHUS Bingo on Friday nights at 10 p.m.

I is for Indiana

Indiana, Pennsylvania is unlike any other town I have ever been to. It is such a small town that has become home for so many students that have made the right choice to attend IUP.

J is for Jimmy Stewart

You got that right, Indiana is home to Jimmy Stewart. Philadelphia Street houses the Jimmy Stewart museum and Jimmy's voice is recorded and played at the crosswalks in Philly.

K and L are for Kieth and Leonard Hall.

Rest in Peace. The doors to these two wonderful buildings were closed for demolition at the end of the Fall 2015 semester. The plan in the works currently is to build a new dining hall in this area of campus. The buildings housed the History and English departments on campus -- which are now in the Humanities and Social Sciences building (HSS).

Lee Brice at the KCAC

That's right -- the country music star is taking on Indiana, Pennsylvania during his Life Off My Years tour, accompanied by Frankie Ballard. Mark your calendars for April 16!

M is for MTO at Sheetz

Be it 2 p.m. or 2 a.m., Sheetz is always a convenient option for an afternoon snack. From Thursday to Saturday, the Sheetz on South 7th Street turns into quite the scene. There are two other Sheetz options in Indiana as well. You will surely fall in love with Mac and Cheese bites if you have yet to have those.

N is for Norm

Our wonderfully energetic and always ready to pose for a picture mascot is a glistening Crimson Hawk named Norm. He gets his name from the original purpose of IUP, as the Indiana Normal School for teachers. Norm is at all of the popular on campus events and sporting events.

O is for the Oak Grove

The Oak Grove is an absolutely breath-taking location in the center of IUP's campus. It is surrounded by many of IUP's most used academic buildings. During the winter, it snows at IUP -- a whole lot. Seeing the Oak Grove during the winter is a sight to see. When the weather is good, which, contrary to popular belief, there is nice weather in Indiana -- the Oak Grove is a great place where students like to student, hang out in hammocks, and host programs.

P is for Philly Street

The main street in Indiana is Philly Street. It is home to many small shops, bars, and places to eat. It's always great, when the weather breaks, to take a walk down Philly after classes.

Q is for "don't quit."

It's not always easy, but you cannot quit. At the end of your four years (or more, which is fine), you'll be so proud of yourself for sticking it out. If you are having trouble, try getting involved!

R is for Residence Life

Similar to most institutions, we don't have "dorms" here at IUP -- we have residence halls. ResLife here at IUP is a really tightly-knit group who tries to spark leadership in everyone. There are many opportunities and organizations through IUP Residence Life that a totally worth getting involved with!

S is for Starbucks

Three times a day, every day. Starbucks is one of the greatest locations on IUP's campus located inside the Crimson Cafe, another one of our wonderful dining hall options.

Stapleton Library

Also known as “The Lib” or "Club Lib." The IUP Library has a ton of resources and great places to study. Inside the Library is Java City, a small coffee shop great for their muffins, Italian Soda, and quick-service.

Slippery Rock

Always remember, friends do not let friends (or enemies) go to Slippery Rock University. Kidding. Maybe? Slippery Rock is our rival institution! That's really all you need to know.

T is for Tres Amigos

Nicki Minaj said it best, "Can I get that Margarita on the rock, rock, rock. Can I get salt all around that rim, rim, rim, rim." Tres Amigos is supposedly the place to go for a Margarita.

U is for Umbrellas

Because you cannot freaking survive without them -- “It Usually Precipitates.”

V is for Vincent Lopez

As our proud Student Government President, Vincent Lopez is one of the most well-known students currently on IUP's campus. He is well-educated and determined to make a difference here and for other universities. Vinny has been one of the most notable leaders on our campus since his start as a freshman at the IUP Punxsutawney campus in Fall 2013. He is a brother of Phi Delta Theta fraternity! Vinny is always seen with a smile on his face, usually appears well-dressed, and can usually be found at least once a day in the line at Starbucks.

W is for $.25 Wells at Wolfies on Tuesdays!

Welcome Weekend

Welcome Weekend is the weekend everyone returns back to campus for the beginning of the academic year. It is so much fun and there are many FREE events hosted on campus, all of which have food!

X is for “X out Gender”

IUP is one of the many institutions taking necessary strides to become more inclusive in many areas of university living, with absolutely no exception to the LGBTQIA+ community. Delaney Hall -- one of our suite-style residence halls, houses a newly created LGBTQIA+ resource room. Additionally, IUP has many programs that highlight positivity for the LGBTQIA+ population.

Y is for “yinz” vs “you’s”

One of the biggest debates of all time and it happens on this campus. The rivalry between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh is pretty interesting and with it, come the dreaded yinz v.s you's (pronounced "youse") showdown. I proudly support the "you's" side of the argument -- although I will admit that the number of students here from Pittsburgh (or relatively close) significantly outnumber Philly, so it's hard not to pick up some aspects of their language.

Z is for “ZZZ’s”

Even if it’s only a few hours after the lib for 10 straight, you gotta sleep!

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

pointsincase.com

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
