For all those lucky enough to attend Appalachian State at some point in their lives will find the following ABCs to be a special edition...

A... Appalachian

Not only is it the best school in the world, it is located in the center of the Appalachian region. The mountains are our backyard!

B... Boone

App State is located in the beautiful college town of Boone, North Carolina! The people and the atmosphere are what make this place so special.

C... Cascades

If you're a student at App, odds are you have taken a lunch break from studying from the lovely Cascades Cafe in the student union. If you're like me, you frequent Freshens, the smoothie place.

D... Division

As in division one. Southern Conference and SunBelt Champs AND three times FCS National Champs.

E... Energy

App is one of the most sustainable campuses in the country. The windmill is visible from almost every angle.

F... Football

App State is known for their stellar football team and fan-following up in Kidd-Brewer Stadium. The Mountaineers have brought home three national championships!

G... Greek Life

The Greek community at App is unlike any other. It's small, but still has a huge presence on campus.

H... Hungry Howies

Arguably the best pizza you've ever tasted after a night out with friends. Not to mention an amazing discount after midnight!

I... Ice

Part of being a student at this cold mountain school is the dooming reality that you will fall and bust your butt on ice multiple times. There is no way to avoid it.

J... Jersey

On game days at The Rock, you'll see tons of fans sporting their mountaineer jerseys!

K... Klondike

The legendary fireplace, Tuesday nights, and cheese fries. Enough said.

M... Mall, Sanford to be exact.

Sanford Mall is where you will find literally every student out and about, socializing on Boone's lovely spring days. If you're lucky, you'll catch a slack line show!

N... Neers

The Appalachian State Mountaineers are undoubtedly the real 'neers on the East.

O... Outdoors

The best part about Boone is that everywhere you look you'll find a breathtaking view. Hiking spots, waterfalls, and overlooks to watch the sunrise and sunset are just a ten minute drive from campus.

P... Parkway

Speaking of outdoors, driving the Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the many places you can find these breathtaking views.

Q... Quidditch

Oh yes, for all you Harry Potter fans, App has a Quidditch team.

R... Rough Ridge

Have you ever even been to Boone if you don't take a Rough Ridge picture and post it on Instagram?

S... Snow

If you've never seen snow before, prepare yourself for the bold winter that comes with App State. Rumor has it the University never cancels class... false.

T... Tailgates

There's not just one spot to tailgate on game days around App. The entire campus is absolutely flooded with students and Alumni getting ready to cheer on the Mountaineers.

U...U of Miami

On September 17th, 2016 at 12 noon, the U of Miami Hurricanes will be in Kidd-Brewer stadium and EVERYONE WILL BE THERE.

V...Vs. Michigan

Another legendary date in the history of ever: September 1st, 2007. The Appalachian State Mountaineers beat the Michigan Wolverines in the Big House.

Z... Zip code

The 28608: once you come, you'll never want to leave.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
