As campus starts getting back into the swing of things, I’ve started appreciating the things that make Northeastern more and more. Here’s what makes Northeastern special from A to Z.
A is for Academics
Let’s be real this one is just on there because I feel like it has to be. (Not to mention that Northeastern is one of the top 50 schools in the country.)
B is for Beanpot
Boston is full of Grade A hockey teams and the Beanpot is where they meet. BC is going down this year.
C is for Curry
From Popeyes to the bookstore to the game room, Curry has to be in the top 3 of every student’s most visited places.
D is for Division I
Hey, we all get to brag sometimes. Can anyone say March Madness?
E is for Ell
Plenty of people start their college careers at Orientation inside Blackman Auditorium inside Ell Hall.
F is for Freshman Fifteen
Come on, y’all. We have some pretty good dining halls.
G is for Greek
Northeastern isn’t overrun with Greek life but there are plenty of options that do a lot of great
H is for Hockey
We’re a college in Boston. There’s hockey and we’re pretty good at it too. If you’ve never sat in the Dog House during a game, please please do so soon.
I is for Internships
I used C for Curry which means I had to fit coop in somewhere. (Mostly) paid internships are the bomb and Northeastern is the place to be for those. Plus where else is it normal to take six month breaks from classes?
J is for JP Licks
And by extension, the many amazing restaurants, cafes, and shops we have near campus from Boylston to Newbury to right in our own front yard on Huntington Ave.
K is for King Husky
Admit it, you’ve totally rubbed his nose at least three or four times. At least. We all need a little extra luck on exam days.
L is for Library
Club Snell. Quiet floors. Texting the desk to get someone to shush people so you don’t have to. Enough said.
M is for Matthews
It’s the oldest multipurpose sports facility in the country and the most spirited place on campus through hockey and basketball season.
N is for New England
Again, we are a school in Boston so of course plenty of our student body is from around New England. You definitely have to get used to Vineyard Vines and a few ‘wicked’s here and there.
O is for OL
Ahhh, orientation leaders. Some are helpful during orientation, some are helpful after orientation, and they’re all pretty awesome.
P is for Paws
Is your mascot a giant skating Husky wearing a hockey jersey? No? Well, I’ll tell you now that it’s pretty awesome.
Q is for Qdoba vs. Boloco
The age old question for any Northeastern student.
R is for Rebecca’s
Any place on campus that takes meal swipes for food is awesome but Rebecca’s is always better.
S is for Stacy’s Mom
Anyone who has been to a hockey game knows that this is the rally cry of any game the band is at. They play four notes and the student section goes on for two verses and a chorus at least.
T is for Taco Bell
I know most of campus likes Popeyes better but there are only like two Taco Bells in all of Boston and Northeastern has one of them so I’d call that a win.
U is for Underwear Run
This is one Northeastern tradition I don’t understand but it’s a tradition nonetheless. Seriously though, it’s always a few weeks into October, how does anyone even do that?
V is for Village (a.k.a. West and East)
West Village is a staple on our campus and East Village is becoming that. What would campus be without West Village and the Stetsons. Absolutely nothing, I tell you, nothing.
W is for Wollaston’s
It may be over priced but it’s just so darn convenient.
Also wind tunnels. W is also for wind tunnels. Campus is made of wind tunnels.
X is for International X-ing
International Crossing is one of Northeastern’s additions. Northeastern’s constant growth and new ideas are one of my favorite things about campus. There’s always something new around.
Y is for YMCA
Northeastern started at the YMCA and it’s still very much part of campus. Just hope you’re never unlucky enough to have a class in the YMCA right before a class in West Village G.
Z is for Zeros
As in the zeros at the end of our tuition bill. It’s painful the way they stack up but I’d say Northeastern is worth it. Just take a look at this list.
