There's something special about Miami University in Oxford, Ohio (also known as OxVegas). It's so special that almost everyone who goes there ends up falling in love! Here are the ABCs of being a Miami University student. If you are a new student, welcome! If you are an alumn, read on to relive your glory days! And if you are a current student, keep reading to remember why you love this school so much!
A: Armstrong Student Center
If you go to Miami, you spend way too much time here. From Pulley's Diner to Miami Ice to the Emporium, it is the place to go in between classes or after a night out Uptown!
B: Brick Street and Bagel & Deli
What is Brick Street you might ask? Just one of the best bars in Oxford! This is a go-to spot for a Wednesday Country Night outing or any other night of the week! And Bagel and Deli? Just the best bagel shop you will ever (and I mean ever) go to in your entire life. Their bagels are life-changing. Come visit Miami and you are bound to end up at both of these places in the same night!
C: Classes
The classes at Miami are sure to prepare you for whatever career path you may choose! There are so many majors to pick from it is nearly impossible not to want to major in 20 things at once. The professors really care about all their students and have such passion for their craft!
D: Delish Cookies
If you live on campus, Delish is your go-to meal place on Maple Street. But what's even better than the sandwiches at Delish? The cookies of course. My friends and I go into Delish and simply get a cookie on the daily. It's the best pick-me-up!
E: Exam Week
This is one of the most stressful times of the year. During this time, find King library flooded with students and every single study room booked 2 weeks in advance. Best of luck memorizing everything you've placed in the back of your mind the entire semester!
F: Fiesta Charra
If you were ever a student at Miami, you know how amazing Fiesta Charra is. It is the place to go for good Mexican food and a good time!
G: Greek Life
Greek life is a very important part of Miami! With so many great sororities and fraternities tojoin, Greek life gives the campus it's very own character! Many men and women choose to go Greek and say that it is one of the best decisions of their undergraduate careers. There is a place for everyone!
H: GBD Holiday
Green Beer Day, AKD GBD, is Miami's own holiday always celebrated the Thursday before St Patrick's Day. It is one of the most wild days of the year and one that all Miami students look forward to!
I: Ice Hockey
At Miami, one of our main sports is ice hockey. During any given home game, you can find a huge crowd of students at Goggin Ice Arena cheering on our team! The chants have to be the best part! If you come to Miami there is no way you will leave without seeing a game.
J: Jimmy John's
One of the many perks of Uptown is that there is a Jimmy John's that delivers! You've had a late night at the bars and are already at home but kind of hungry? Or up late studying for that physics exam? Place a Jimmy John's order online and it will be delivered right to you until 3 am! Isn't that a wonderful thing?
K: Kahoot
Kahoot will be your new best friend! It is the perfect way to study with friends by making quizzes for them to take to help you both study. Not only is it a great way to study, but it is also really fun!
L: Libraries
Miami has so many great libraries that it can be hard to choose one to study at! From BEST to King to the Music Library, they are all great choices with endless resources. And to top it off, almost all of them have special rooms you can rent for group study. It's a win-win place; hanging out with friends while also getting work done!
M: MacCracken Market
This is the place to go if you're in the sorority dorms or live anywhere near South and MET quad! It has everything you will ever need from cookie dough in a cup to shaving cream! I have spent way to much declining balanace here!
O: Oxford
Oxford Ohio, also known as OxVegas by some people, is the home of Miami University. Although it be but a small town it is mighty! From bars to restaurants to Heuston Woods, Oxford has something for everyone! I am lucky to call it my second home.
P: Pulley Diner
This is a Miami student favorite! Pulley Diner is Miami's own 24/7 diner. Pulley Diner will be there for you when no one else is! It's the perfect spot to go to when craving a burger, fries or a milkshake. And don't forget the famous toasted rolls!
Q: Quizlet
Quizlet is your other best friend after Kahoot. It is the perfect way to make sure you don't fail that next exam! And the best thing? You can use your friends' Quizlets when you are too lazy to make your own or don't actually know enough to even make your own Quizlet (I'm the latter)!
R: Rec Center
The Miami Rec Center is one of the best places on campus! There are so many ways to go workout and get fit. If swimming is your thing there is an amazing pool and hot tub on the bottom level! Or want a workout class? There are tons of classes offered ranging from kickboxing to spinning to Yoga. There is something for everyone!
S: The Seal
Don't step on it or you will fail your next exam! If you happen to be the unlucky fella who happens to step on the Seal, you must run to the Sundial Turtle Heads and rub them!
T: Turtle Heads
Rub the Turtle Heads on Central Quad for good luck! Or if you were unlucky enough to step on the Seal!
U: Uptown
Uptown is the place to go any day of the week but especially on weekends! With many bars to choose from, restaurants galore and adorable shopping venues, it is one of the best parts of Oxford. It is one of the best college towns I have ever experienced!
V: Very caring professors
The professors at Miami University care a lot about their students! They will do anything they can to make sure that their students succeed and thrive. They are the best of the best!
W: Walmart
Walmart is the go-to place for all Miami college students. It has everything you might need. Literally. It is not an uncommon thing to go on Walmart runs on a Friday night with friends. As a matter of fact, some of my favorite memories have been formed from said Walmart runs!
X: Xtremely awesome people
No matter who you meet at Miami, you are bound to find some of your new closest friends here. After a year at Miami, I have already met some friends that I know I will stay close with for the rest of my time here and beyond. No matter what clubs you join or major you pick, you are bound to find some amazing people.
Y: Yager Stadium
Yager Stadium is home to the Miami football team as well as one of the potential sites for water testing if you were in Chemistry 145 (RIP). It's always a fun time going to watch Miami football games (especially when they make it all the way to a bowl game)!
Z: Zero sleep
As soon as you move in, there will be close to no time for sleep. Between classes and having a social life, sleep might be the last thing on your mind (and naps will be your new best friend along with Kahoot and Quizlet). So get as much sleep during the summer as you can because you have a fun (albeit stressful) year ahead of you!
Miami University is one of the best schools out there with so many things to do! If you have ever been a student here you know exactly what I'm talking about! Love and Honor!
