College is a time of transition that most families have to go through. It's a time to become your own person and to pursue new opportunities. But, there are cravings we experience as college students that can only be fulfilled by a trip home to see good ol'e mom and dad.

Here are 9 things most missed about home while at college:

1. Your own bed

That hard, twin-sized bed gets old after a while... and nine months isn't long enough to ever fully break in a bed.

2. Parents to take you shopping and pay

We all have those expensive things we need/want that we wait to get until we go home, just so that we can try to convince our family to pay for it. Some things just aren't in the college budget.

3. Easy access to free food

There's nothing like a home-cooked meal. But there's also nothing like going to the pantry or the fridge and to get food that is FREE. College students realize this is truly a blessing.

4. Family

Mom's embarrassing comments and dad's bad jokes... We can't act like we don't miss them. But, it is said that everything is meant to be taken in moderation...

5. A clean shower

There's nothing like getting back in your own shower and not having to wear shower shoes or see random hair balls everywhere, trying to guess who left them.

6. Personal space

One of the things college kids miss is the chance to go to a room where there is no one else in it. When you're in your own home, chances are there is a place to escape where no one else is. Plus, you can leave your junk wherever you please without worrying about your roommate's opinion!

7. A good washer and dryer

Dorm laundry is rough. We have to use extra soap ,and our clothes still come out barely damp. Some items have to be washed more than once, and the dryers leave things, once again... damp.

8. Friends from back home

Returning to your home town is special because most of your friends are doing the same thing at the same time. It's like a planned reunion and trip down memory lane.

9. Pets

We all love those wet dog kisses or those cute cat snuggles. If only dorm rooms allowed pets.

College is one of the most growing and challenging times in someone's life. Sometimes going home is the best therapy because we get to enjoy all of these things we've been craving.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
