1 year down. I am finally done with another year of college. I am nothing but satisfied. But I know it's not going to last long. It never does when college students come home for the summer. Here are the phases we go through.
1. We move out
The clothes. The boxes. The food we never ate. The textbooks we never opened. We have 24 hours after our last final exam to be moved out of our room. We haven't slept in days, and we are supposed to make our rooms look the way they did before we moved in. Our brains have officially shut down and our focus is no longer finals or moving out, it's summer.
2. The First Few Days Back Home.
We have 3 options; to eat, to lay in bed, or to watch Netflix. But we do all 3 all at once. The first few days back home are the best ones. Being spoiled by our families and finally catching up on that sleep we lost from the parties and finals. Don't forget about the home cooked meals and the endless amounts of naps. This is our favorite stage.
3. The Following Days Back Home.
We move out of our 4x4 square they call a dorm room, we are finally back into our own rooms. But our dorm has taken over our bedrooms. There are suitcases and boxes and clothes we haven't seen in 7 months. We are somehow supposed to put all of this away neatly in a day or two because we know our parents have already assigned chores and enforced rules on us. We miss the freedom we had when we were living on campus.
4. The Boredom.
Now we are waiting for the rest of our friends to come home. We are waiting for our jobs to start. And we are waiting for the beach weather. We sit in our rooms and finally eating and Netflix and naps get boring. We have nothing to do.
5.Hanging Out With Our Friends.
It feels like weeks have gone by, but they finally come home. We haven't seen some of them in months. We catch up with them. Plan all of these trips together, go to the beach, do something crazy. No matter what, we get to see the people we haven't seen in 2 semesters. This is the fun stage.
6. The Job.
This is the boring stage. But we all know that we need the money. We spent it way too fast in the first few months of college on things we did not need. Things that we probably lost or is now thrown in the trash. Reminding ourselves that next year we need to save our money (but we know that won't happen).
7. The Stress.
We have had our fun. We now know that summer is coming to an end. It's over. Our next year is quickly approaching and now we are rushing around getting supplies, dorm decorations, and new clothes. All of the money we earned, or at least most of it, has been spent. These are the last couple of weeks of freedom.
8. The Countdown.
It's here. 4 days, 3 days, 2 days, 1. Finally it is the last week of summer, and in just a few days we will be back with some of our favorite people. We are filled with the enthusiasm that ends after syllabus week.
