Raise your hand if you can't wait until graduation! I, for one, am incredibly excited to walk across that stage, grab my diploma and celebrate with family and friends. However, you definitely don't want to forget about one of the most important decisions of your life that comes before graduation day: your graduation cap design. Let's take a look at the eight most cliché themes for graduation caps, then you can decide whether or not you'd like to choose one of them. (Dibs on "Mean Girls!")

1. TV shows and movies

These types of caps display your personality by allowing others to see what kinds of shows or movies you're into. Or, perhaps they just prove how much time you spent binge-watching Netflix instead of studying. Either way, this theme is cute and fun, and you might even make a new friend who also loves your favorite series while waiting in the graduation line.

2. Inspirational quotes

Caps with lovely quotes about life, success or future plans either mean, "I believe in myself and I'm ready for whatever my destiny holds," or they mean, "Holy sh*t I am absolutely not ready to graduate, but my cap better make it seem like I am!" Whether you want to inspire others or you need to inspire yourself, this theme a great option.

3. Humorous or sarcastic

Maybe you're not a very fancy or crafty person, but you know how to make those around you laugh until they cry. How about showcasing your sense of humor by cracking a joke right on your cap? You'll certainly have random people coming up to compliment your cap all day if you go with a funny theme.

4. Desperation

Freaking out about finding a job after graduation or the amount of money you owe in student loans? No problem! This is the perfect opportunity to display your stresses, and hopefully, someone at graduation will be able to help you out. (Just kidding! good luck with that.)

5. Conceited

With a cap like this, everyone at graduation will definitely bow down as you cross the stage. You go, Glen Coco.

6. Alcohol-related

These types of caps show that you're fun, yet still successful. If your bar tabs this year cost more than your tuition, then alcohol-themed caps are for you. Also, I'd be willing to bet money that you'll be hammered at the graduation ceremony. To each their own!

7. Nostalgic

Graduation got you down? You may want to consider a cap portraying a little bit of nostalgia. From childhood cartoons to melancholy quotes, these caps will make you feel both happy and sad at the same time.

8. And finally, "Thanks, Mom and Dad"

If you've never truly thanked the people who pay your tuition in the four (or more) years you've attended college, what better way to make up for lost time by thanking them on your cap for everyone to see? Although this theme is slightly overdone, I'm sure they'd still appreciate the kind gesture.

So, which cap theme are you choosing?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
