Most of us college students wait a long nine months for..... not a baby, but summer!!! Summer break is our saving grace and it is even better as a college student. For those students who go to college thousands of miles away from home, this is their time to get back to their roots. However, after being home for the summer for 3 months, we are all reminded why we did choose to go out of state for college or at least live on our own. Here are some positives and negatives about coming back home for summer:

1. Being HOME

There is something special about coming back home after being gone for a while. HOME is different for everyone, but usually means the same to most.

2. Seeing (high school) Friends

You get to see high school friends or childhood friends that you haven't seen in at least a year if not more!! It is so fun seeing how friends change and talking about the fun times you used to have!

3. Getting a break from school

If you are not taking summer school courses, this one applies to you! This is your break from the sleepless nights, days spent in the library and money spent on coffee all in hopes to pass those finals at the end of the semester.

4. Summer Job (insert eye roll)

Although I said break from school, i didn't mean it would actually a break! Depending on your summer job, if you're like me you are almost busier during the summer than during the school year! Although all the money you make becomes worth it during the school year.

5. Missing friends/teammates/roommates

Within two weeks of being separated from your friends, roommates or teammates, separation anxiety has already set in! Living without them for 3 whole months seems impossible because they are the only reason you survived the last 9 months!

6. Searching for Independence

Although it is so nice getting home cooked meals again and having your parents pay for groceries, you are living under their house and now probably have to follow their rules. You have been so used to cleaning your room, doing laundry and shopping for groceries on your own time, it may throw a cramp in your style when you have someone telling you what to do again.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
